Am i the only one that is amazed

The highest scorer at my school had a 2400, but the person was also a Siemens winner, so that's how it goes.

i was jumping for joy when i got my 1990. then i went on CC and wanted to cry. i was happy bc i went up 300 points from the first time i took it. [1690] wont colleges look at that improvement just as much as a 2000+ score?

I think it all depends on a school's asian percentage. At my school, we have 750 students and of those students 22% are asians. I got a 2250 and I thought I did great on my test..but later I found out that among the asian kids I know, 5 scored above 2300s. wow.... talking about getting owned.... :-/

too bad i'm asian.
.....talk about getting owned.

Yea, out of the top 10 I was the one with the lowest scores, our val got a 2370 [790's on all of them] and our sal was just behind him with a 2360 [800's in verbal and math], then there's me ranked third with a 2000 how funny, but yeah at least I came on this site realizing that my score was slightly above average, but yeah...

At my PUBLIC school (yes, public), I felt terrible about sharing my score of 2250. No joke. Everyone around me was getting 2300+. I know three kids with a 2400, tons with 2370, 2390, etc.

My school is really crazy about dividing kids up, though. We've got review classes, reg classes, honors classes, and GT/AP classes...I'm in GT/AP and never see/talk to kids in regular or honors classes, so I am just constantly surrounded by really smart, over-achieving Asians...hah.

i see some people getting like 800 800 800 and more 800s.. its so crazy man.. lucky them..:P dopee.

my school is 50% asian, and we had plenty of 2200+.

one of the girls i know got 2400 and is harvard bound.

As MissSuperFantastic points out above, not all public schools are bad. I went to a public school in So. Cal, and there were 12 students out of 450 seniors that scored the equivalent of today's 2100+. Between these 12 students (I was one of them), we scored a total of eighteen 800-scores on either the SAT I or II (and this was when there were only two parts to the SAT).

Of course, one guy (not me) had to go and get 4 of these top 800 scores himself--SAT I Verbal, SAT I Math, SAT II Physics, and SAT II Chemistry. He only got a 780 on the SAT II Math IIC (really screwed up, I guess). He went to Caltech--and then had a nervous breakdown in his second year there. He did manage to recuperate and graduate and then went to work for NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena.

My public school is 70% Asian, and we've had a 2400 in both 06 and 07, as well as at least five more people with 2300's (my friend has a 2340 and three 800's to boot). The class of 08 already has a 2390er.

The atmosphere here feels like a 2100 is merely average and a 2200 merits you a "good job". Only when you get a 2300+ do you actually get complimented.

Last year, our top 3 ( co salutorians), both of them scored a 1600, and the valedectorian too. This year, our valedectorian scored a 2390, our salutorian scored a 2390, two peeps got a 2400, and another got a 2390. Our school is pretty competitive and very hard. The highest grade from last year was a 97.5 ( valdectorian)

I think if you care enough about getting into a good college to post on CC, then your scores will probably be pretty high...

lets be honest, people who come from affluent families and attend wealthy schools tend to do a lot better than students who come from either average or impoverished conditions. i scored a 1230 on my SAT's i studied for about a month, its decent for a disadvantaged student, but compare me to some prodigy who spent about a year preping for the test because his parents could afford a tutor and i wouldn't stand a chanse. there is no way someone could maintain an ingenious tone and say that wealthy children have it tough on the SAT's. I love the SAT's, kinda of a shame my passion for it was spurred after i took it, but with all sincerity, it favors who come from affluent pedigrees.

Buddy. Don't kid yourself. Only rich idiots will hire a tutor for the SAT. I got a 2380 with just a month of prep by myself using the school's copy of the Official Collegebaord Guide.

Money helps, but don't make excuses.

to abethebutcher, that's a lame excuse. The fact that other people hire tutors should not directly affect how you do on the test. You only spent a month prepping. If you spent a year prepping, even without a tutor, you'd do better than a 1230.

gj your a lame excuse, what i sayed was right. children from wealthier families do better than disadvantaged children. you missed the point. i did not say that you had to have a tutor to do well.

agreed: just like the fact that they have to work less at getting into college in the first place, whereas we are scrambling to try and find enough grants, loans, and scholarships and fill out all of those forums and sitll get accepted.

along with racially bound schools, churches, scholarships, funding, etc

That doesn't amazes me for me test score is just a simple matter of studying nothing more.what amazes me are the incredible extracurricular activities ,aps and other stats...

Stop complaining about how other people have it easier. Go out, do your thing, and if you do well despite all these difficulties and whatnot, you're a better person for it.
