at all of the SAT scores that are 2100+ on CC?

It's a matter of where you've been. If you go to a competitive high school it's hard to find people with under 2100. If you go to a regular high school 2100 is fabulous. At Harvard a 2100 is the captain of the football team.

Probably alot of people who scored lower could care less about a site like this. It's not on their radar screen.

In the year 2100, man will fly to the moon and back...and then back again!

well yea, i came on here thinking my 2180 was pretty good, and found out that its average if not below average for top schools

Haha 2190, owned!

Seriously, what is 99th percentile for the whole country is just run of the mill for applicants to most competitive schools.

hahha ahh i guess i should have retaken again if i knew you had a 2190 :)

No reason to be amazed. People who end up on sites like this tend to be trying to get into the most competitive colleges, and most applicants to such colleges have very high stats.

Students with average stats don't tend to come to sites like this because they plan to apply to in-state public colleges where most students get in and where one can make very good predictions about acceptances based on stats. The same is true of most private colleges that aren't top tier. Also, most colleges in the US accept the majority of their applicants, so it's mainly only applicants to top colleges that are stressing so much over admission that they end up on CC.

a 2100 in my school would make you the highest scorer in the school. heck out of the class of 06 in my school, the highest SAT score was 2050. and if you're wondering, my class size is around 800 students.

at my school usually there are about 10-15 2100 scorers out of 450, which really isnt that good when you think about it

i got to a public school, but its still considered a decently good public school. My guess is that the other 10 public school around my area scores even worse.

but i do know this, this one all girl prep school has very high scorers.

btw, would college admission recognize that you had a sub-par education and look lightly on your SAT test scores?

at my school in texas, the highest score that I was aware of was a girl with 1420/1600 on the old SAT. I remember thinking she was so incredibly smart when I had first taken it and gotten a 1350, which was the 2nd highest in my school. I also remember thinking I was awesome too b/c none of my friends (that were in the top 10) had scored as high as me, and then I came on here. lol

Rude awakening. I retook and got a 2220, in part due to CC because I studied my a** off to try to do better. Had I not came here I would have probably thought a 1350/1600 was fantastic, so this place has definitely helped me to try harder.

I have the highest score at my school out of a class of about 400. I have a measly 2020.

lol why is that? Why do really good private schools score so well on standardized tests compared to others? Do these schools teach specific tactics on the SAT that other schools don't?

well I do think there is more availability in study aid at private schools but generally it is just the type of people that go there

But it's bull to think that only a 2100+ will get you in to a competitive school I know many who have had worse scores and still ahve gotten in to very good schools. When is everyone going to learn that SATs do not matter as much anymore especially with the top schools. They can't emphasize that b/c most of their applicants have terrific scores so it wouldn't help them to narrow down a class mostly looking at SATs scores.
I say that if your SAT score is too competitive then you are screwed with the top schools. They have a quota to fill and if they have enough SAT geniuses then you're out. To have an okay SAT in a top ten school you have a good chance because if your application is as good as everyone elses and only you're score is lower you may fill that quota

To have a "too competitive" SAT score will screw you? what? Just because somebody has a high SAT score, doesn't mean they don't also have a high GPA, good recs, a good essay and decent ecs.

How can a high SAT score really hurt you?

I think you guys are exaggerrating things. There's no doubt that SATs aren't the be-all-end-all, but they are huge. While Harvard may not take all the 2400 SAT scorers, there's a reason why only top schools are able to post really high SAT score ranges and that's because unless you dont work at school and cussed out the admissions officer in ur essay, a 2100+ will probably land you at a good school. The reason why it may not appear that way is because - as others have noted - people with crappy scores who dont care about college wouldn't waste their time on CC.

having a crappy score does not mean you do not care about college and it also does not mean that you will not apply or even get into a good school. Many people with a great scores and great stats get rejected from competitive colleges. And many people with, what you guys call, crappy scores get into those same great colleges.

Okay, perhaps I worded things incorrectly. I didn't mean to claim any absolutes, but I think it is fair to say that those with higher scores generally - not always though - tend to be a little more serious about college and tend to come on sites like this. Also, while some with high scores do end up going to poor schools, that's not so prevalant.

I mean, odds are that with a SAT score of 2200+ and strong grades, it is highly unlikely that a respectable school that is slightly below the ivies, Stanford, MIT and Caltech in recognition would pass on you, right?

My SAT scores sucked. But that doesn't mean I don't care. Especially since I'm a transfer.
