Oh I understand she wanted to take the 4 hour penalty before she even tried it, I was just wondering if it took her 4 hours to do the sculpture. Was it faster to do the challenge or take the penalty? It was daylight when she started but dark when she finished, but we don’t know what time she started.
I often wish they’d clue us in to how long teams were at various tasks -
In their exit interview, they said that they still don’t know how close they were to the other team. She claims that the reason she was crying while sculpting is because her grandmother was dying during the race and that she grew up in poverty.
That’s interesting about her interview. I don’t NOT want to believe someone, but not sure I’m buying her story fully!
You know, AR has all kinds of couple teams. But I have to say the rainbow dreads team REALLY didn’t seem like the couple of people on earth that are dying to go on AR. I wonder if they were recruited somehow or went on the show to gain some notoriety or something - did they say they have a book they published?? Maybe hoped to sell a few more copies??
Something is missing though and I can’t put my finger on it.
Ive been thinking the same thing; and it hit me when Phil said they were getting on their chartered flight to their next country.
its the racing and randomness of international travel that i miss. the flights at different times, the catching cabs, or stealing other’s cabs. The travel is so controlled now; it takes away from being in other countries and using your wits.
I think that’s what i miss. I assume it’s covid protocols . …
Yes, it is Covid protocol. I believe I heard Phil say that about the flights in an interview. This season was taped May-June 2022. They actually turned it around pretty fast it seems.
And has been for many seasons. Yes, it’s even more controlled with chartered planes, but even before, plane tickets were prebooked. I miss the very old days of finding their own flights.
Navigating foreign travel agencies/airport booking was always a fun part. I suspect that is out because they ended up with teams several hours behind through no fault of theirs when flights were delayed. They are making them drive vs taking taxis probably as a Covid protocol, but I think it does reinject the skill of navigating in foreign places. I hope they keep this feature going forward.
More likely as a result of trimming production costs.
I, too, was not disappointed in the team that went and found their “motivational” talk somewhat annoying. But also agree that the daughter was frustrating with her talk of quitting. I know she said she has anxiety, so that might be the reason. I couldn’t figure out why they were so far behind the others. I also thought that perhaps some of the whining was due to editing and she was not complaining as much as it seemed she was.
I was so glad to see the twins win!
We’re happy to see the motivational speaker go—they wouldn’t motivate me to do anything! Using poverty to excuse your crying and giving up is a cop-out-----many of us grew up in poverty but pulled ourselves up by not making excuses and working hard, as opposed to whining.
Father was trying so hard to be positive when his daughter wanted to quit—he’s having the time of his life and doesn’t want it to end by quitting.
And yes–we are pulling very hard for the twins!
That might be it - I’ll have to really pay attention when I feel the “missing” feeling…
I’m really enjoying this season. The locations have been beautiful so far. That view of Florence at the chiseling challenge, Amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever liked so many teams. The only team that really got on my nerves was the one that was just eliminated.
But what I can’t understand is the difficulties teams have with driving a stick and finding directions on a map. They know in advance that this will be part of the race
At this point I want the sisters who recently found each other to win it all. Love them. I agree it’s hard to figure the motivation of the motivational speakers being on the show. It sounds like he was more of a fan so maybe it was his idea and she went along to support him. LOL - she actually thought all the others had chiseled that sculpture. The daughter of the father/daughter reminded me of taking a teenager, or maybe a toddler (lots of similarities between the two stages) on vacation. It sounded like the father was used to the whining and I love the way he just continued doing the challenge while she plodded along complaining and then eventually toward the end she started participating again.
I tear up every time the twins step up to the mat. I really like them and their story. The double leg seemed exhausting! I was. Appt that the motivational team was eliminated. Also happy both teams decided to finish and not give up.
I hadn’t gotten to see the past three weeks so went back to see last week in preparation for tonight’s episode. I had no idea it was in Florence, my favorite city. I feel like I know just enough about the city to have helped me, certainly with the backgrounds in the fashion challenge, though I would’ve picked the little windows challenge. I love them.
Glad the motivational speaker got kicked off. She was annoying.
LOVED the new location. Loved the dad, but the daughter seemed past ready to go so I guess it’s good they got bumped.
My favorite teams are tonight’s winners and Glenda and Lumumba.
Really enjoyed what we saw of Jordan but the episode was a little boring. They must have been limited or restricted, in what they could show as we saw very little transportation between challenges. Phil said, “After a 1.5 hour drive” yet we saw none of it. The teams must have run into issues because they all arrived in Petra in different orders than when they left the metal detector challenge.
Finally have the team I’m rooting for…Glenda and Lumumba! I really love them.
Interesting (if not very visually full episode) - my dyslexia would kill me on that slider puzzle, but if I were racing with my D she’d ace it with no sweat! I would have enjoyed the challenge of the metal detector - and I feel like the way that one team did it, move quickly & broad sweeps, would be how I’d have done it.
A 1.5 hour drive, when driven by a driver, would have made this boring episode even more dull. Although I did enjoy seeing some of Petra.
