I'm a parent of a 9th grader who is preparing for the AIMO.
And I heard that there is a space on the Yale application form where they ask you your AMC scores if you have took the tests. Is this true or just a rumor?

And if it's true does the scores really have much weight?

There is a section for "additional test scores" under which you could list your AMC or AIME scores. I think that only an admissions officer could accurately assess the amount of weight this section holds, which I'm sure would vary depending upon the nature of the rest of the application.

Congrats! qualifying freshman year is really good. There is no spot on the actual application for your AMC or AIME scores. I put both on my common app in the additional info section, or maybe under academic honors, i don't really remember.

There are a few other schools that have room for it on the supplement (I think MIT) and when i was applying for a specific scholarship at WashU they asked for it if you took it. but when its time to apply (though as a freshmen parent you don't need to worry about this right now) find some place to put it on the app.

(also, just to clarify it is the AIME, American Invitational Math Exam).

and i doubt test scores have too much weight--not every school offers the AMC. But i'm sure it also helps to show passion in an area. Of course, we can really only speculate since i don't believe any of us on this website are actually in admissions. If your freshman (or in later years) gets to the USAMO, that would probably show a lot too.
