hey guys, just wondering if top colleges (ivy league, etc.) would consider a score of 100+ on the AMC impressive at all and would it be a significant addition to an application?

thanks.

i don't know if it would be a 'significant' addition, but at the very least it demonstrates relatively high mathematical ability, particularly if you're clearly involved in math-related activities. i think the weight would vary from school to school, but i don't think it would hurt. i personally mentioned AIME qualification on my apps...

It's kind of like the real SATII for math. They know it's harder to get than an 800 in math for most people. It's a nice addition, but not huge.

can colleges see the score you got?

you need to tell them...

I doubt it will be a deciding factor but it definitely will look good. I pass this over because 1. it offers no monetary compensation [not really a big factor for me but still, it's senior year and these small recognition really don't mean that much] 2. i have better opportunities open [larger scholarships with more prestige]. Placed in sophmore year. Didn't take it in junior and not this year. :p. I am good with math but these contests aren't my thing.

amc, aime, and usamo are the most prestigious math competitions -_-

I don't think the AMC in itself is all that impressive, considering how many qualifiers of the later stages (AIME, USAMO, IMO) would also apply. But I mean, obviously if you do well on the AMC, you can move on to the next contest and so on, so of course you should try to do as well as you can. XD

if 100+ and can qualify for next rounds...I'd definitely put it into my Application.

Some of the colleges that care most about AMC scores surely have access to the annual book from AMC that lists all the top-scoring students around the world.

some schools, like MIT, have a specific place in your app for AMC and AIME scores. Other schools have a generic box for you to put AP/IB/AIME scores.
