Hello everyone,

I was admitted to the College of Letters & Science for the Fall 2013 semester. I am a transfer student from a community college. I think my counselor really led me in the wrong direction because now I think my admission offer might be rescinded.

When filing my application, I checked the box that stated I was following the IGETC pattern (which I was, and my counselor told me that it was completed -- he gave me a student education plan for my transfer and everything). However, I now took a closer look and IGETC states that I must have completed an American History & Institutions requirement. I've taken two courses: History 17A and Political Science 1 which satisfy this requirement; however, the IGETC form says this:

"The University of California has an American Institutions requirement that is separate from IGETC requirements. Courses indicated by *** will satisfy the AI requirement but may not also satisfy the area in which it is listed. An additional course must be completed to satisfy the general education requirement for that area."

The History 17A and Political Science 1 course both have a "***" next to them.

Does this mean that I cannot count those courses towards my IGETC at all, or does that mean I simply cannot count them towards BOTH IGETC and AH&I?

The Berkeley website states that transfer students can satisfy the AH&I requirement when they transfer, so if those courses can count towards IGETC, then I will be fine; however, if they can't, I am very worried that my admission offer will be rescinded!

Does anyone have any experience with this, or any advice? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
