You should be happen to know that in the younger generations democrats are closing the gap in terms of rich supporters. At my school I'd tend to think most of the "rich kids" were democrats.

I really think you are wrong there. The only reason it might appear that way is because Jews who are usually wealthy, are also in general politically active and in the majority of cases are liberal (despite also being the leading neo-conservatives). I do not think there are many rich democrats who do not fit this profile. I am not anti-semitic at all by the way and believe jews to in general be a smarter, better people than us. I am absolutely in love with Jews and it would be ridiculous to accuse someone who appreciates them as much as I do as being anti-semitic.

Minority groups in general support the democrats. As more and more people from diverse backgrounds become rich, this might increase the number of liberal supporters on campus.

When the other poster said "rich kids" he clearly did not just mean kids who come from a family that has a a lot of money, but really meant "rich white kids" (being catholic is no longer significant although I do believe back in the day Irish catholics were big time democrats but I could be wrong.).

Rich white kids, wasps and catholics, are overwhelmingly conservative. In fact, I am pretty certain if anything, kids today are more conservative than there parents were. A generation ago college was considered a time to experiment with different ideas and challenge the belief system that you were raised with. Nowadays, kids are so dependent upon their parents, that they accept everything without question, and never develop any sort of independence that would leave them capable of even considering going against the political beliefs of their parents. They are more apathetic and self-absorbed. They view college as a big party and are unwilling to jeopardize their relationship with their parents lest they lose their precious beer and rent money.

And the original guy is also right about the callousness of these kids. They do display a remarkable lack of concern for others welfare. If you ask college republicans for example why the don't support universal healthcare, they will inevitably start talking about higher taxes or some BS about choice. Talk about mixed up priorities. I think they might view their parent's money as their own (and it sort of is especially if they stand to inherit it), and thus make its' protection their foremost concern.

I dont know what I just wrote. But I am tired. It is 4:30 here. at maximum I can get 5 and 1/2 hours of sleep. Damn.

Ronald Reagan was not a rich kid.

In the end, the joke's on us, & the people never seem to get the last laugh.

There is nothing wrong with being self-interested. All mutual, voluntary transactions that occur in free markets are results of parties satisfying their self-interests. If I pay $15 for a gripper because I am willing to do so and the seller accepts, then each of us has satisfied our self-interest.

Welfare is maximized under perfectly competitive markets, where each buyer and seller has perfect information and acts on his self-interest.

Indeed, government intervention designed to increase “concern for other people” often reduces welfare by creating deadweight losses.

It’s ironic that the priests for diversity are so biased against “old, fat, balding white guy[s].”

RR is soooo OVER-rated by the Republicans.

Along the same lines - JFK is sooo OVER-rated by the Dems.

They both were more "image over substance".
