Hey,
I've received notices back from every school except Stanford that I need to send in additional finaid info (apparently, I made a mistake on my CSS profile) -- yale, williams, swat, princeton, and columbia (and I was offered admission at the first 3 of those schools).

Stanford has not yet asked me to make this correction on my CSS. Is this an early indication that they are not interested in me?

right,
a few hours ago, a yalie '08 told me that all the schools he was accepted to had asked him for additional finaid info, while he heard nothing from the places that eventually rejected him.

The question comes down to whether someone has received a message from stanford asking for more aid info. If no one's been asked, then you have nothing to worry about. If someone has been asked, then perhaps you can investigate whether there's a correlation.

Personally, I'm inclined to believe that it is not mere chance, and that colleges that ask for more info have already accepted you. It's simply a matter of efficiency. The process is still need-blind, as the financial status has not affected the admit/deny decision, and less staff is needed to evaluate aid packages.

That being said, I do not believe that this is any early sign of rejection necessarily. Stanford is a big school that gets quite a many applications. As judged by its postcard, which came a month or more after the confirmation from all of my other schools even with the earlier deadline, Stanford is known not to be particularly prompt in cases such as notifying applicants re: aid info.

The way I see it, take it as a good sign if you're asked for more info, but don't take it as a bad sign if you're not.

i said i would apply for fin aid but never sent in my forms b/c i never filled out fafsa (And no...it was not laziness aka senioritis) and I would have expected them to email or something saying "hey we need to processs it ..." Also, how much ever we want to believe that fin aid and admissions are seperate..................they're not. They're just NOT.

Of course they're not completely seperate, only people offered admission are offered financial aid, so at some point the admission office has to send a list of people who are accepted to the finaid office. They're seperate in that admission is not determined by financial information you send in.

Janderoo, could it be that they decided you weren't eligible for finaid based on what you did send in? Or maybe they just missed the error?

hmm i know that zeller, but what I meant is that sometimes fin aid plays a role in whether a student is accepted or not. that is what I was referring to. The admissions officers do see whether or not you are applying for aid.

this whole financial aid thing is causing me so much anxiety. I sincerely hope that at the current time there is no correlation between financial aid requests and offers of admission

Zeller,
Oh i BETTER be eligible for aid... else, I ain't goin' to college!
And unfortunately, i don't think the error was something so minor as to be overlooked (that is, if the people workin in the finaid office are decent, discerning people)... I was completely missing a form. =/

tokonyo,
thanks! your post was reassuring. =)

did any of you get contacted about financial aid information (knowing that perhaps you might have forgotten to send in additional information, like tax forms, w-2 forms, etc)?

I called the office and for those who applied RD, the financial aid applications are under review now. No notices for missing parts has been sent out yet....sighs in relief lol.
