Same. Except they really mucked with my head. First they were like, we do have a package for you! So I was really, really happy. But then they told me to hold on so they could check where it was from, and I was all excited for 10 min. Then they got back online, and told me that actually, there was no package at all. :’(

Then, I called again 5 hours later, asking the same thing. They told me no again, but it doesn’t mean that nothing is being sent, it just meant that it’s not in their system… so maybe, maybe… doesn’t seem so likely though… =/

I checked… nothing :P. The lady said I should check later to see if there was a delay. I’ll call again at 9 but my hopes are gradually declining. At the least I can sleep now… but not completely give up hope. Congratulations though!

I wonder why they don’t just send email out to all accepted and denied students at the exact same time? Perhaps not as fun, but seems it would avoid an awful lot of confusion and anxiety!

Jane Foley Fried just tweeted that Admission letters @phillipsacademy are in the mail! International students can access their decisions online tomorrow, March 10.

I think there’s some sort of disconnection between Andover’s intention and the actual effect of its handling of decision letters. For them, by letting those who are waitlisted or denied getting letters a couple days later than March 10, they are giving these students a chance to see admissions from other schools thus easing the blow of the denial from Andover. However, in reality, since many schools deliver their decisions on March 10, the lack of a decision from Andover is like an open sore. Some students are speculating if the FedEx is delayed for some reason, which although rare did happen, making it an agonizing waiting game.

But, the last straw for Andover to change to an online notification system may be the calls made to FedEx offices this year. It’s too much. Those who are smart and lucky enough to find out there’s a package for you on the way, do you know if they ordered Saturday delivery? If no Saturday delivery, don’t panic if don’t see it at your door tomorrow morning. They should be in on Monday. Good luck!

As a parent, I find it a bit concerning and disheartening that Andover would say one thing and do another. The admissions office clearly tells people (via it’s website and if you call the office) that all admissions decisions are sent out to everyone on March 10th via mail.

Yet, it seems they actually do send some decisions (acceptances only?) via FedEx earlier than March 10th (arriving on morning of 3/10).

Seems slightly dishonest and very confusing for students and parents. Why not either be upfront and honest about this current policy…OR just notify everyone the same way (on approx the same day) and then follow-up the acceptances with the fancy FedEx box.

We didn’t even apply to Andover, so this doesn’t matter to us personally. But, it definitely seems odd and confusing! Looking forward to the straightforward YES or NO email from other schools in the morning.

parkermom, That would be too sensible. They had similar suggestions last year to do something like what Exeter does by sending email on the 10th and followup with the letter. I guess some schools prefer to do things the same way they have done for millennia. I don’t know how the internet generation likes this method. :D

Congrats to those who have a FedEx package on their way!
I just called, and it looks like FedEx doesn’t have a package in the system for me… yet. Who really knows until tomorrow (excluding some legacies who received a call)? It’s 9:02 PM where I live, and it says that Ms. Foley tweeted that letters were in the mail at 7:43 PM. Maybe FedEx hasn’t entered the package in the system yet! So don’t give up your hopes yet! Think positive. I wish you all good luck!

↑ I hope it is to prevent too many people from calling FedEx- hopefully because it is quite unreliable in telling you whether acceptance packages are coming to your house or not!

Zoberist’s suggestion: That would mean that if you call FEDEX, ask them if they have “in the system” a delivery to your house coming from Andover, Massachusetts. They will generally tell you. You do not need the tracking number. If you call FEDEX, 800-463-3339 and then hit the number zero three or four times and you will get too a person, if its not to late. Good luck !!!

One more important piece of information. If you live far away from Andover, then the package would come by FEDEX AIR. FEDEX does not put those shipments into the system until midnight. If it goes FEDEX ground (you live close) then it get recorded and into the system immediately. You may not be in the system now but you may still end up with the package. Hope this helps

Does anyone know if this works for other schools, like Exeter? Because I just called and they didn’t have a package for me, but I applied to Exeter and Deerfield, not Andover. I also live in the Southwest, could it be possible that it’s not in the system yet?
