announcing national merit?

<p>i've been deferred from early admissions to unc chapel hill as an oos student and just got a letter announcing that i'm a national merit finalist. would it be beneficial to notify unc of this? would it help my chances of getting in at the regular admissions date or would it not make a difference?</p>

<p>any opinions/help would be appreciated. thanks!</p>

<p>You should send unc an update and include that fact. Hopefully you have other updates to send along that have occurred since you filed your app. Definitely do something! It can’t hurt.</p>

<p>I would send it if you have other updates as well. Otherwise, they know that most (15,000/16,000 semifinalists) are chosen as finalists.</p>
