Little children are never taught how to lie, but they naturally learn the trick. Lying is an inevitable part of human characteristic and it is always a tempting act. However regardless of its attractiveness, it is never okay to lie. There is no such thing as a white lie as the foundation of lying is on dark and dusty grounds.

I am sure everyone in the world has lied at least once, even the people with the highest morals. People have known from earlier days the consequences of lying and one famous fable illustrates this point. The story of the shepherd boy depicts its moral clearly. The playful shepherd boy plays trick with his neighbors, screaming out the nearness of a fierce wolf, which gathers the courageous helpers at once. When the people find out that the boy was lying, they castigate the boy as they leave. However the boy does not learn the lesson and continues to lie. The end of the story is tragic. When the wolf actually appears, none of the villagers is persuaded to believe the boy. The vicious wolf eats all his sheep and he himself gets injured by the carnivore. Lying only brings out the worst outcome. In his case, it was disappearance of his assets. This fable is teaching a very important lesson and hence regarded as one of the greatest fables of all.

Hiding the truth and placing it under the doormat is not the best thing to do when handling difficult situations. Honesty is a invaluable virtue of life and plays a significant role in establishing a healthy society, relationships and personality. If people do not trust each other, they cannot have an honest relationship. Many people thing the most important element in a romantic relationship is, obviously, love. However this is a big mistake. Without trust, even the most loving couple is likely to end up in the verge of conflict. Honesty lets people rely on each other and trust each other in happy or difficult times. However once the wall of trust is broken by a lie, it is very tiring to rebuild it. Hence there is no circumstances where it is better to lie, as lying only brings out the worst outcomes. It breaks mutual bonds and may also create unnecessary doubts between two loving people.

The word white lie has been created to rationalize the act of lying. There might be times when lying is necessary. The only way to avoid hurting others may be lying. However these cases are very rare and most of the times, lying only leads to a different lie which ends up to be a big mess that is very tedious to clean up. It is very essential to tell the truth. The foundation of truth is very firm and strong. It will not fall apart even when a great force has been put on it.
