Another Transfer Student!

Hi everybody!

I am a college freshman at University of New Mexico, and I am hoping to transfer to University of Washington next year. I was wondering if you could give me advice on how to make myself a more ideal candidate, or simply state if it is likely that I will be accepted.

About me:
Major: Biology
High school GPA: 4.11 (4.0 scale. I took honors courses and dual credit with community college.)
ACT score: 28
ECs/activities: US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, volunteered with local food pantries, 4H sports (competed at a state level), year abroad in Germany, multiple youth orchestras and bands, was student body vice president.
I am also a first generation college student.

I spent most of my time growing up in Washington state, and was only forced to move away in my junior year of high school because of my parent’s job. I’m not sure if this will have any bearing on acceptance, I’ve just heard that they are more likely to accept people who have lived in Washington state.

Thanks for any advice that you can give me!

Oh and also, I am a member of the Honors College at UNM.

The transfer tools are available here:

But your first stop should probably be the Net Price Calculator:

UW is really expensive for out of state students, make sure you can afford it before you dream. As an honors student at UNM you’re probably getting scholarships on top of your in-state tuition that might make staying put your best bet for your financial future.

There is no WUE discount at UW. If you want to live in Washington, you could try the calculator for Seattle U or for one of the state campuses that participates in WUE: Central, Eastern, WSU, and WSU-Tricities participate in WUE for transfers.
