I see no one has started this thread yet, but those of whom who has been accepted at Purdue(West lafayette), has anyone received any notices of scholarships and/or honors college? I got admitted in FYE on 2nd december, and still heard nothing. Getting a bit anxious coz Purdue OOS cost is too high, and i wont be able to afford it if I am not offered any scholarship. Those of you who have recieved, plz state your SAT/ACT Scores, GPA, and EC’s. so that we all can coordinate?
You will get better answers on the Purdue site. I doubt anyone has heard anything concerning scholarships yet. The scholarships are competitive so they will wait until they have made all of their decisions from the applicants who applied by Nov. 1st. Purdue starts sending out scholarship information in mid January beginning with the trustees scholarships and continuing into February with the Presidential scholarships. Financial Aid information will come out in late March. I forget when Honors information came out. It was 3 years ago for us.
What are your stats? M+CR SAT? ACT? GPA?
What is your home state? or are you an int’l?
I see that you’re a US citizen, but OOS with an ACT 32.
In the past, those with a 32 typically get a $9k per year award. It makes a little dent in the cost.
How much do you need your net cost to be?
@mom2collegekids: my stats are…SAT(CR-700 Math-690 Writing-710 Total-2100) GPA 4.03… SAT 2 Scores are (SAT Math 2-770 SAT Physics-780 )…waiting for SAT Chemistry result… taking 4 AP’s…(Calculus BC, AP Physics C, AP Chemistry,AP Computer Science).(will give exams next May)…have a bunch of EC’s (no athletic though) . I am US citizen but currently living outside US. . I will need my cost to be as low as possible. In any case I will have to take loan…
Last year the Presidential Scholarship and Honors College invitations came out around February 20th or the weekend thereafter.
Yesterday just received a letter letting me know I was accepted into Purdue University Mechanical Engineering program. Yet I have not received any letters about scholarships. I hope they do have scholarships because I know they had many scholarships for students in the spring semester but I am going to school in the fall.
Two years ago, the presidential scholarship threshold was around ACT 35 with GPA near 4.0 as some did not get it. That was $10k/year.

YOU can only borrow $5500 as a frosh. To borrow more (which is unwise) would require an American cosigner who can qualify, likely one that is here on American soil.
Are you aware of that? Who would co-sign?
Did you apply to any schools that are affordable or will give you huge merit?
@mom2collegekids : What exactly is a cosigner, mam, and what sort of people can cosign? As to other school, I have applied to OSU and Georgia Tech as well. Dont know how much they will give though. Georgia didnt even let me know their admissions decision yet.
BTW I know that Purdue doesn’t require SAT Subject Tests scores, but I have some decent scores in my hand now…(Math Level 2-770, SAT Physics-780,SAT Chemistry-800). Do you think I should send it to them anyway for scholarships and honor college considerations???
You don’t have the income and credit score to qualify for student loans, so banks can’t trust that you’ll pay the debt back…
So…banks will require someone with a high income and a great credit score to “sign the loan with you” EACH YEAR…and that co-signer will be financially responsible for the loans if you can’t pay. That’s why most people refuse to cosign. People are afraid that for some reason the student can’t pay.
If you were to go to a US bank, then the QUALIFED cosigner would need to be an American.
@mom2collegekids: Hmm… K my uncle lives in Connecticut. He is a software engineer. Though I dont know whether his income is high or low, can I get him to co-sign?
@mom2collegekids: He is a green card holder though.
It’s ok that he’s a green card holder, but it’s really NOT RIGHT to ask relatives to cosign big loans. They’d be responsible if you couldn’t pay the loan back. You may think that you will, but something could happen.
Does he have children of his own to put thru college?
@Adwaya My D received the Presidential scholarship but not the bigger Trustees scholarship a couple years ago. We have regretted not sending in her SAT2 scores (both 800) after that. SAT2 is not required for the admission, but who knows if they need something to further differentiate among the very top students.
