(Anxiously) Waiting

Candidate Visit Weekend

thanks! how do you get those? do they mail them to people who get appointments or LOAs? I went on a wrestling visit there so would they not send someone like me one since I've already technically visited the Academy as a candidate? thanks

It might be an NCAA vioilation for them to have you again...read the material they gave you (or is online) to verify. What did your athletic visit entail? We are hoping our son gets an athletic visit...but have not heard anything yet.

midn2012 - i'm in the same situation as you. i'm triple q'ed but no LOA from Navy. LOA from WP, nothing from Navy. my senators just had interviews in October and my last interview is 8 December for my congressman. none of my MOC's have sent in slates. i hate the waiting.
i found out at my CVW (while checking my email on my host's comp) that i got NROTC to the unit in D.C. so i'm applying to UMD and GWU.
good luck with everything and hang in there.

hershey, i also have my last MOC interview on 8 December (good luck with yours) do you have any information about the number of applicants in the Great Lakes region...i have seen others post info about the breakdown of how many USNA applicants come from each state and info like that..none of my MOCs have made any decisions yet i don't think because some might still be conducting interviews...i wish i could know which ones I earned and then just get that letter from USNA!! ahhh i guess patience is a virtue

midn2012 - i don't know the # from the Great Lakes region... i know for WI there are 101 candidates for all four academies that require noms. that's same with my MOC's. my senators had several interview dates and i interviewed on the first one so i'm waiting for them to finish interviews in other parts of the state.

Several items - the process is very competitive - but if you have gotten this far, the crowd you are competing with is much smaller.

Summer Session - good to go to, but not necessarily a help. 1800 students typically attend, but last year, 400 appointments were awarded out of that 1800.

Candidate Visitation Weekend - CVW - the purpose of this is to help "sell" the academy, but there are no real benefits to attending, and no loss to not attend.

LOAs - primarily issued to top athletes to let them know that they have a guaranteed spot IF they can get a nomination. Not many are issued, and not getting one shouldn't be viewed negatively.

My son went to summer seminar, got no LOA, did get an invite to a CVW in November, but didn't get formal offer of appointment until end of March. (He had mediocre sports, very good SATs, and lots of college classes completed at the local junior college, with good grades. And when he got his Fall Quarter of his senior H.S. year grades from the junior college, he sent a certified copy to the Admissions Board to show his continued progress.

In Washington State - neither senator did interviews, and their selections were sent out in mid January. The congressman DID do an interview (mid December) and the selection letter was sent out in early January.

February and March are when the majority of the offers of appointment will be sent out. Don't sweat them. Continue to do excellent things, and if you get special awards or recognitions, be sure to inform your BGO and maybe send information to the Admissions Office to update your record.

Vineyyardmh - Are you from Washington? I ask because my congressman, Rick larsen, held his interviews last week. Only three days later he called my house to tell my dad I was choosen for the principal nomination. :) . I was pretty excited. however, everyone who writes on this forum is correct when they say waiting is the killer, I can't wait for that congressional nom to show up on my CIS

ah, now you're making me anxious for my congressional interview! congrats on the nom!

thanks - good luck to you too :)

my s is waiting also... seems like forever.

This is good training! They will spend alot of time waiting in the military.

Just finished my last interview for USNA...I am officially complete with regards to the Naval Academy application process. Now I only have to wait on the word from my MOCs on their nomination selections...

...and so the waiting game begins

This thread brings back so many memories from a few years ago. Time flies when you are NOT waiting for something. My daughter didn't hear anything until mid March and the time seemed to drag on from November through March when there was nothing left to do but wait and wait and wait. I will say that if you have something like a big award, honor etc. that comes between now and notification, send it on up to USNA admissions. My daughter was featured as an athlete of the week and we sent it on up. Things like that. Squeaky wheel theory. LOL But, I am praying and hoping for each one of you and your parents as you wait this one out. The day will come and I hope you all have beautiful offers of appointments.

I just had my interview with my Congressman's selection board. They said they should make their decission by next week. Since the Congressmen's and Senators' selection boards talk to each other, I figure they all should have their decissions made very soon.

All I have to do is wait. This is going to be a slow week.

Slow?? Don't you have finals to study for or to take to keep you busy?? = )

My high school is on the semester system. I don't have finals until the end of January.

OK...sorry, then you'll just have to pace. In GA, we start so early that we have finals before Christmas. Fresh semester begins in January upon return. Kids get out before Memorial Day in May...and for those w/ A average, no finals in May!! Son is very excited to be taking last high school finals ever next week! I'm sure the ones at the academies this week will be killer...good luck to all cadets!

It sounds like you have a much better system in GA. Most west coast schools start nearly a month after east coast schools. The down side is that we get out a lot later. If I end up going to USNA, I'll only have two weeks between graduation and I-Day.

I almost wish that I had finals right now. At least it would take my mind off waiting.

Seems good in May when we are done...but in Aug. when we go back, it reeks!!
