I applied to Sonoma State, San Jose State, San Francisco State, and Cal State San Marcos. (San Marcos is my safety. Also, it is the only one that doesn't have psychology listed as impacted.)

I am a psychology major, and a transfer student. I currently go to a CA community college. This spring I'll complete my last 11 units of GE.

My cumulative gpa is 3.2 but I have two "W's" and one "F/W" on my record. Do these really damage my record?

What are my chances?

--Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

I’d say for Sonoma State, your F/W may damage your record for sure. But since their gpa req is so low, perhaps you 3.2 will help that. Same actually for San Jose, San Francisco and Cal State San Marcos.

I’m actually transferring, at least trying to, for spring 2010. But I heard that it’s harder to get accepted as a Spring Transfer student. So the fact that you’ll be transferring fall 2010, I think you have a fair shot. I would try to squeeze in an easy club you could get involved in or perhaps try tutor in a subject you’re strong in. The weaker you are academically, usually, the more involved you should be.

But also, fall applicants are typically High school graduates and that kind of ups the ante. High school students aiming for college usually have a lot of AP classes and it’s way easier for them to be involved in clubs and stuff. But, the fact that you have college experience should help no doubt.

I figured as much. I received the F/W my first semester of college so I’m hoping they’ll notice my improvement. I’m not in clubs but I am in two honors courses, and I work so here’s hoping.
