any hope?

I've been wondering about that if one of the UCs has rejected me, does it mean the rest of UCs will very likely reject me as well? (Let us leave Cal and LA out of this assumption, also leave UCR, UCM out.)

i'VE BEEN rejected by UCSB, and haven't heard anything from any other schools, applied CAL, LA, SD, IRVINE, SB, DAVIS...I'm an aero/mechanical engineering major(3.88gpa). I'm not feeling well about my chance, but like many I am still hoping...

did you do a tag for ucsb?

Yes there’s hope. It’s not over till it’s over.

are you transferring out of a CCC?

a 3.88 GPA is really good. Don’t lose hope. I think you will get into at least one of those UC’s that haven’t replied back yet :)

I don’t think I tagged with any schools. I got couple of vague messages about tag but I was never sure if I got any. All my transferable classes are from ccc, but I did go to a university abroad before, never received a degree, tho.

I know there is hope, but just to be rational, SB is less competitive than most of the UCs that haven’t replied. It’s hard to be optimistic.

You have a 3.88 GPA which is even a good GPA to be admitted into Cal… Maybe there was something UCSB didn’t like? Maybe they just weren’t accepting many mech e. transfers. I’m almost positive it is not because your GPA is not high enough.

I haven’t finished all the prerequisites for ucsb maybe. But the rejection notice plainly tells me that I am just not competitive.

here it is
http://i56.■■■■■■■.com/11bhe9x.png</a></p>

While gpa is an important component, it is not the most important! Pre-req completion is the holy grail of admissions (especially for engineering).

Your gpa is certainly outstanding (especially for a place like UCSB), and so for sure that was most definitely not the reason they rejected you. Are you absolutely sure you’ve completed ALL of the required pre-reqs?? A UCLA rep told me that a 3.6 gpa student with all pre reqs done would be admitted before a 4.0 with even ONE pre-req missing!!

I was going to say that you will most likely be OK for UCSD, but then realized that your major is ME/Aerospace (which is impacted at SD). Generally speaking, UCSD is one campus that typically does not care about pre-reqs, but that is for majors that are not impacted. I got in here with a lower gpa than yours (3.85) and NO TAG, but I’m an EE major. Did you specify an alternate major at UCSD?? If it’s not impacted you’re probably in.

I got an email like 2 weeks ago from college of engineering of Cal, this lady was asking me to confirm if I have gotten a 4-year degree before or not. And she said it was near the end of evaluation process. I thought it was odd because Cal releases decisions at the end of April, how come they were at the end of evaluation already? Well, not a big deal I guess, I think she just wanted to make sure I reply in time.

Victor, I did not complete all prereqs for ucsb, my plan was to focus on CAL, LA, Davis, so maybe it is why I was rejected, missing prereqs is a big deal i think.

OK I saw that message, but that is standard boilerplate language used to send a letter out. I would call and ask them why you were rejected.

It is impossible that a 3.88 gpa is “uncompetitive” for a place like UCSB. I have a strong suspicion that it has something to do with the pre-reqs.

Don’t give up hope. I saw posts from people who have been admitted to UCB and UCLA but rejected by UCSB (or some other mid-tier UC) last year. If you did the prereqs, GE and will have 60s/90q units before you transfer, you have a shot! Ask UCSB why they rejected you.

hey i applied as mech/aerospace too. 3.86gpa(4.00major) and 87units.
finishing up last physics and statics this semester.

applied to UCI UCSD UCLA UCB and so far heard from UCI.

if you not missing any core courses, such as physics, chem, math, cs, this could be the reason. i thought about it a while ago and asked a friend who transfered to UCLA as aerospace engineering.

last fall, i was rejected from Davis’s tag because i will miss two engineering course(circuit and graphics) before transfer.

UCD and UCSB seems strict on the completion of pre-reqs.
i noticed that those engineering classes are common classes that can be taken in many cc’s.
on the other hand, for LA and SD they have their own engineering courses that dont articulate with CC’s engineering courses and listed them as recommended. even SMC, feeder school to UCLA, doesnt have any equivalent engineering courses.

its hard to chance you since this year it is gonna be hard due to budget cuts. still i think you have no problem for UCI and UCSD.

im dying to hear from SD as it is my first choice. im speculating it will be impossible to get into LA for aerospace without 4.0 this year.

^^^yea, the classes I am missing are offered at my local schools, I just do not have time to take them right now, I will be finishing all core classes. My gpa dropped quite a bit too by fall(3.98-3.88), so I understand if they don’t take me.

I agree with you on how competitive it is getting each year. That is why I feel like chances of getting in is just slim for me now. I did not even think much about LA and cal after my gpa has dropped, really, I was like, I knew there is no chance for me, that was why I applied for sb, uci, etc…I’ve been waiting on Irvine anxiously, I thought it is the place I can possibly get in, since they do not require much of prereqs, but I haven’t heard from them either. But I saw on the other thread, somebody got in irivine for ME with 3.5, that was awhile back.

by the way, I think you have a good shot, ur major gpa is 4.0 which is crucial , and getting in irivine is a good sign! Good luck, I think you will get in SD, and definitely have shots at cal and la.
