Any more acceptances for Fall 2015 out there?

I’ve been waiting almost 15 weeks. Thought my portal would change today but still nothing. Starting to get very discouraged

My daughter was accepted back in November and absolutely loves UDel. A friend informed her recently that UDel is considered a huge “party school”. My daugher is not interested in drinking at all. Wondering if those of you who have/had children there can comment on their experiences as far as social life is concerned.

Accepted today! here’s my stats
Female Maryland Resident- Applied on December 31st
20+ Honors/ AP courses (7 AP courses, many G/T and Honors Courses)
1810 SAT (630 CR, 590 M, 590 W)
29 ACT (30 E, 26 M, 31 R, 32 S)
3.24 UW
3.93 W
Lots of Extracurriculars (AP Scholars, National Honors Society, AP Scholar with Honors, Key Club, After School Choir, Spanish Club, Spanish Club Public Relations Manager, Theatre Productions, Part Time Job, Student of the month, Etc)
If I click on apply for financial aid it says “We have received your FAFSA and have determined that you are eligible to receive financial aid awards, which could include need-based grants, loans and federal work study. Shortly after your admission offer, more detailed information, including the conditions for maintaining your awards, will be available on this site from the My Awards and Financing -> FAAN (Fin. Aid Award Notice) link.”
Does anyone know how long it will take to hear about financial aid?

@Bluedog, I had asked my freshman D if UD lives up to all the hype of a big party school. She said she dosent see it. While alcohol parties are always available to attend, they are most if not all off campus. She said if you wanted to go out every night and go drinking its there for you. She also said that there are so many people around that many choose not to go drinking. Depending on who they associate with will determine how exposed to parties they are. My D is in Nursing and associates with Bio and engineering students. They became friendly in class, study lounges, library etc. All the of them take pride in their school work and have little time to party anyway. One of the most telling things she said to me during the fall was “its so nice to be around so many smart people” The HS culture wore on her and it was a pleasant change for her at UD. So between clubs, movies, sporting events and main street eateries, theres plenty of other options for them.

@Sull29‌ Thank you… I appreciate it. She was accepted into the Nursing Program… so I am sure she will be kept very busy with studies. She goes to a private catholic high school and was able to find a nice group of friends that don’t drink. I think she was concerned that she would’nt find a group to fit in with. So, I appreciate your comment. She has alot of interests so I am sure she will find other like-minded kids.

I got my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday and my portal just changed today!!! I got accepted for my first choice major which was marketing and I am so excited! Only question I have is when is merit aid announced? I heard a week or two after acceptance but just wanted to check!

Son checked his portal today and was accepted into the Honors Program as Business/Undeclared. He applied right before Christmas break SAT’s 2100, GPA 4.0 many honors and AP courses and good leadership EC’s. I don’t see anything on the account page that says Financial Award right about My Reservations so I assume it’s not posted yet. After doing some research about the honors program I think UDEL could be in the running for him. Congrats to all who have been accepted and good luck to all that are still waiting.

Is anyone else on the waitlist

How holistically do you think UDel reviews applications?

IMHO I believe they do a reasonably good job looking at applications holistically. Of course things they look at may not all be equal in weight. The major factors are probably the rigor of HS curriculum (and grades in advanced courses), GPA, grade trends, class rank, and standardized test scores. All the other factors are probably of lesser rank but may still be critical in making decisions for certain applicants. I feel that the very issue that they are not able to adhere to their identified time frames indicates that they take an holistic approach. If they just look at a few things (i.e. test scores, GPA, etc.), which many other top ranked universities do, I think decisions would be announced much quicker. Just my perspective. Good luck to all those still waiting for a decisions. My best “guess” is that most applicants still waiting will hear over the next 3 weeks.

@mrm2015 Where you notified that you were wait listed? I hadn’t seen that yet this year. I think I read that last year they weren’t able to take anyone from wait list due to capacity issues.

Ok so my financial award link came up on my portal and I recieved a presidential scholarship! My only question is my fafsa is not updated yet and I am updating it this weekend so could that change the award amount I get even though that’s merit??

@brucemag‌ I spoke with my admissions rep from UD and she told me that they went to their waitlist in the beginning of April…

nymelody:
The FAFSA is only tied to need-based aid, not merit aid. So it is very unlikely that the merit award will change. Perhaps any need-based aid award (grants, loans, work-study) will change once you update your FAFSA. All students, no matter what the income level is, are eligible for federal Stafford Loans. However if the income is low enough the loans would be subsidized.

Last year OOS students who where placed on the waitlist (at least as reported on this forum) were informed by UD that they would not be taking in any OOS students from the wait list because of the increased number of OOS students who were accepted and who then decided to attend UD. Now perhaps they did take in a small number of OOS students off the waitlist but I suspect, if this is true, that the number was extremely small. I suspect that this year they will offer fewer acceptances initially to OOS students and wait and see the return. If spaces are available they would then begin to take in OOS students from the waitlist ( which in years prior to last year they generally did end up taking in a reasonably good number of students off the waitlist-though this was highly variable). Good luck. But as I had noted in previous postings if a student is offered waitlist placement, and they really want to attend UD, that they accept the waitlist decision ASAP (like the same day) as the waitlist is not ranked (although it probably is broken down by major) so it ends up being “first-come, first served”.

Mwallenmd - do they usually put people on the waiting list before finishing acceptances? I was surprised someone was given a WL position before all acceptances have been given out – especially if it is “first come, first served” - if my DD gets waitlisted I would want to get on that list ASAP. Thanks

My perspective would be, and this is just my perspective, that because of the new quasi-rolling admission process that they have now that perhaps for certain majors they have completed accepting the number of initial students for that particular major and then would be offering waitlist positions for this major to some applicants. If this is correct I would suspect that the majors involved would probably be the most competitive and numerically restricted majors at UD (I.E. Nursing, Chem Engineering, and a few others). Its hard to know for sure as this is only the second year for this new application process for UD. I’m sorry but this is the best response I can give you. It may be totally incorrect. It looks like so far, at least on this board, only one person has reported a waitlist offer so it does not appear like they have sent out a lot of waitlist offers. Best of luck to your DD.

Still waiting for a decision, OOS. App submitted 12/29. Admissions download from Common App on 1/22, but transcripts, etc., received in October. Last week, Admissions said he is in the final phase of decisions, whatever that means.

My application was complete by Thanksgiving but the portal still says it is under review. I don’t even have “final stage” yet…

@Kristinaww
Mine has been downloaded and complete since 11/24, still waiting …if that can help you
