got the Feb 26th dated letter …yesterday! true snail mail ha ha … (high volumes applicants hear decision
end of March or early April letter…etc etc…). so haven’t heard anything new.
Some universities are having students calls high school students who have been admitted(but not yet accepted) to school to see if still interested or not. Maye this helps them gauge interest vs wait lists? idk if UD calls admitted students…but I hope they do…
Saw one girl post on Twitter that she got rejected from UD but didn’t even apply there. I guess that goes to show that things really are a mess in the admissions office there.
hang in there! admissions sent out the most answers on Fridays around/after 3pm. I think after last year’s overwhelming response to acceptances they are holding back a bit to monitor how many are committing to UD. They went 400 students OVER their typical class size last year.
Applied October 6th; received “high volume” letter in early December; sent excellent mid-year grades; still no portal update, no mail - sent Admissions 2 e-mails asking if they received mid-year grades - no response.
Well, @stayinpositive, if you’re able to stay positive after 5.5 months and little response then you’re doing well. Can you share some of your ‘positivity’ with others on this thread? Please? I really feel for those praying and hoping to get into UDel and the wait goes on and on and on. And on. ;-(
Perhaps “no news is good news”?? “Good things come to those who wait?” Good luck to anyone still waiting
As a follow-up to lefty1 comments perhaps I agree they may be trying to get some idea of the intentions of accepted applicants in order to avoid accepting more students than they have space for. They are closing two dorm complexes next year and are opening a new dorm complex and a renovated dorm complex. I don’t know if the spaces in the opening dorm complexes will cover all the spaces lost in the closing complexes and I suspect they don’t want to have the very large number of triples that they had to have last year. I understand that the Provost announced that this year they have received the second largest number of applications they have ever received. This is just a guess on my part. Or perhaps the delay is just due to the turmoil that I suspect has been going on in the admission’s department this year as I noted in a previous post. By this time last year, and in previous years, most all students who were initially accepted had heard from UD. With this being said IMHO many acceptances are still to come. Hang in there. Once you get the acceptance all this stress/turmoil will be “water over the dam”. Good luck.
I agree with Mwallenmd about the dorm space. This year they are not guaranteeing on campus dorms for transfer students due to high demand for upper division housing. Transfer students will be put on a waitlist for housing after their $ 200 deposit.
In 2012, my S was notified by portal of acceptance on March 12th. But at least everyone was notified within a few days of that date. To have rolling admissions take so long is an absolute disaster and hopefully next year they will figure out a better way to do this and stop torturing applicants.
Best of luck to those still waiting.
I’m very close to calling admissions ad just begging for a decision. I have other schools who do care about me but UD just seems like they should wait until May 1st. Its sad but the Admissions Office really does not do a good job.
I just called and they told me we should know within the week that all decisions should be made by April 1st.
My guess is the decisions will come out next Friday, right when spring break starts.
We received a snail mail acceptance letter dated Feb. 27, mailed Mar. 9, and received here Mar. 11. A week or so before that we had heard she was accepted by the music department. Departmental acceptance might determine the timing of university acceptance.
I still havent heard anything yet. It has been over 16 weeks since I applied. I called several times and sent multiple email saying a decision would be released soon but still nothing. Even if I do get in, I probably will not be attending. It was my first choice but this whole ordeal has really turned me off from the school. I am very disappointed and hope nobody has had to go through this.
Applied October 6th ~ haven’t heard anything; received “high volume” letter early December; sent great mid-year grades; sent 2 e-mails to admissions asking to confirm that they received my grades, but no reply - I think the Admissions office has gone “dark” and off the grid… won’t accept offer of admission if it ever arrives - too much red tape - many even larger schools have rolling admissions (to which I applied) with a straightforward and timely timeline.
@historylover475 omg! We are in the exact same situation! I have a feeling we’re not alone. So frustrating! Used to love UDel and I would’ve gone in a heartbeat if I got accepted, now I stopped checking the portal, stopped calling and emailing etc… Leaning towards JMU. @stayinpositive when I called admissions a few weeks ago they said they were two weeks behind on emails! There is no organization or sorting through the emails, all the emails go to one ginormous folder in one account.
I would like to say once again that I am extremely disheartened regarding the turmoil in the admission’s process this year. IMHO the resignation of the Director of Admission’s in the middle of the admission’s process says a lot about UD’s own dissatisfaction about what has been happening. I had been hopeful that after UD switched to a new “rolling” type of admissions process two years ago, and had a lot a of problems implementing it, that they would have made changes to avoid similar problems this year (which obviously they were not very successful in doing). Unfortunately this will in all likelihood result in a number of applicants deciding to go elsewhere, students who otherwise would have made fine additions to the student body at UD and will not have the opportunity to be exposed to the excellent educational experience provided at UD. Best wishes to all applicants, whatever your decision will be.
This wait is so frustrating! I applied at the beginning of December and I haven’t heard anything. I’m now considering JMU even though Udel was my first choice school.
My buddy called admissions yesterday and spoke with a nice lady. She told him (his app complete 10/23) that hopefully he will hear in a few weeks. Seems so unreal. I’m sorry for all those still waiting and hoping like my bud. Hope all goes well for everyone. Take care
According to last years delaware post a majority of people who heard back this week were waitlisted hoping its a different pattern this year. the waiting sucks
