Admitted students days are 4/11 and 4/18…still waiting here
My daughter got accepted via the mybluehen today. It has been awful (for me mostly) but we are super excited. She originally applied to the 3/2 Occupational Therapy program with Thomas Jefferson but did not get accepted to that program. Got accepted to 2nd choice, undecided. Hang in there everyone. Good luck!
I really feel for all of you that are still waiting. My daughter applied in October, got the “high volume” letter in December, and then got an acceptance in February. She loved UDel when we visited but they didn’t give her much money - still waiting to hear from a few other schools that are also sending out acceptances/rejections piecemeal. I get what you are going through as we are still dealing with it elsewhere - good luck to everyone still waiting.
This is ridiculous if we end up being strung along just to revieve a denial!

I would be happy to sign up if you could just get around to providing me a decision
@2kidsmom - I think your post is hysterical. Thank you for sharing. My son is also going on 5 1/2 months of waiting. His application was complete in October. After reading your post today, I got the nerve to call and let them know about this process and our frustrations - not that it helped in any way, but it made me feel better after being silent for so long. I really don’t think they care either way and their process is absolutely ridiculous. The people fielding these calls are like broken records. Maybe they should put more manpower into reading applications than into training people to answer the phone with same line of monotony. Thanks again for a good laugh.
Having been thru this twice with two kids, both who chose UD in the end, I certainly understand the ups and downs and the long wait. After reading everyone’s comments I think UD and all the other colleges out there, would do themselves a favor if they went back to the method of the “old days”. Remember, unless you were EA everyone heard on 4/15. The process that these schools use now causes so much angst which is completely unnecessary. Give these kids a break, make no promises and give everyone the same acceptance date. In the end everyone would stop stalking the admissions office and the portals and get back to what really matters…enjoying Senior Year!!
Does the Admissions office close for Spring break?
UDs spring break is next week if admissions office is closed next week hopefully we will get a desicion today since next week is the april 1st deadline
I believe the only time the admission’s office is completely closed is between Xmas and New Years. They may be a little short-staffed answering phones however, as students who may be involved in work-study jobs there will most likely be away.
My daughter is a sophmore at UD. She heard this upcoming freshman class is very large…Large enough that they are not guaranteeing housing for transfers.
A bit of humor as some of us (or our kids) await the inevitable rejection letter. “the Admissions Committee once again sent candidates like you multiple enticing pamphlets encouraging you to apply, knowing full well we had no intention of accepting you.” http://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/an-honest-college-rejection-letter
I just called the admissions office and they told me I would get my decision soon. I then asked when is soon and they said it will most likely be in the middle of April. All of the other colleges I applied to have already told me my decision and this is the only college I’m waiting on. I don’t know what to do now. I most likely won’t be able to go to any of the accepted student events since they’re in the middle of April.
So @brucemag - you think all that’s left are rejections? I was still hopeful…
How could they not tell us until the middle of april when colleges are supposed to let us know by april 1st! This is getting ridiculous and seems like they have no idea what they are doing.
@wa7945 No, I don’t think only rejections are forthcoming. But some rejections are inevitable. Than again, so are more acceptances! Don’t lose hope! But I know my son has a plan in place if the rejection comes so he won’t be overly disappointed. He’ll go ahead and be a Nittany Lion rather than a Blue Hen. Good luck!
I’ve called more times than I can count. The people have been kind, but not helpful at all and some of the time their kindness did not seem sincere. The most frustrating thing for me anyway is that they DON’T. CARE. The wait is horrible yes, I’ve been waiting 19 freaking weeks… But what’s even more horrible is that they just don’t care at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if May 1st rolls around and I have no decision at all! I can call as many times as I want, we can post on here and vent… but it makes no difference to them at all. Also… the fact that we may not hear until mid April… how is that fair? Honestly, how is it fair that some people may miss open house events, etc or miss out on housing or finding a roommate and more because the admissions office is taking too long to make a decision? It’s bullshit. Sorry, but someone had to say it. Maybe you don’t agree with me and that’s fine! I don’t care if I get accepted or denied to Delaware at this point, I’m already 95% sure I’ll be attending JMU, but it’d be nice to at least get a decision. Just needed to vent… sorry guys ^:)^
While I share (on behalf of my son) some of the frustrations here – clearly stated above by @drumpf15 – I try to put myself in the role of Admissions. I don’t know the exact numbers, but say they have room for 6,000 freshman. They get 30,000 applications and have accepted 15,000 knowing full well that a percentage will go elsewhere. But they have a problem: most of the kids not going to UDel haven’t told them that. They’re trying to read the deposit numbers as a gauge for how many will actually accept and, therefore, how much more room they may have. (UDel’s twitter page has made a plea for students to send in deposits – not just cause they want the money, but also they want a correct read on numbers). They don’t want 5,800 freshman if they have room for 6,000, but they also don’t want 6,800 (which is a problem for everyone).
This issue has been exasperated by the number of applications each kid now submits. My son, for example, has been accepted by 7 schools (and he’s not a great student – borderline for UDel) and only one of those 7 schools has an easy ‘decline’ button. While he won’t make a final final decision until he hears from UDel and UMass (the last 2 on his list of applied schools), he’s pretty certain he knows he’s going. He might change his mind if accepted by UDel, but meanwhile there are schools on his acceptance list that he hasn’t yet declined. I will encourage him to do that – and hopefully some of the UDel admits who are going elsewhere shall email admissions with a decline.
P.S. My son has sent in a deposit to a school with a waiting list and anxious kids and parents who want to get in. Say he gets accepted to UDel (which originally was his top choice) and decides to go to UDel and not the school with the deposit. But until he tells that school he isn’t going there, that school can’t give his slot to someone else.
It’s a numbers game…and the same colleges who will decline us or our kids will be declined by a large number of other kids. 'Tis a strange game this college app process…
I agree its a numbers game and last year UD had a negative experience with it, ending up with 400 more OOS students accepting admission than anticipated. Actually UD usually aims for a freshman class of around 4K and they have been getting 25K+ applications the last few years (the overwhelming majority from OOS-and the freshman class has been ending up 2/3rds+ of OOS students). Historically they usually accept around 10-12K students. Believe it or not UD does not like to place freshman students in triples (unlike some major universities that have large numbers of triples and even quads or more-PSU is a good example). If they were just interested in money-than the more the better. They also don’t play the deposit game of connecting the timing of deposits with better housing (another money making endeavor some colleges use). So IMHO there is at least some integrity here. I am not trying to justify the turmoil that has been in place this year, just pointing out some additional factors from UD’s side of the picture. Obviously their switching from the old process (where all OOS acceptances were announced around mid-March) to a rolling type of process has left a lot to be desired by many applicants, and their frustration is understandable. I still believe there are going to be a number of acceptances announced (and obviously some wait-list offers and denials as well). For those accepted (and decide to attend UD) that after all this frustrating experience you will at least find your dorm arrangements overall to be significantly better than students in previous years (IMHO not a small consolation). Best wishes to all those still waiting to hear.
