Any more acceptances for Fall 2015 out there?

NewYorkMaMa:
Congrats on your D’s acceptance to UD. Her tragic life experiences are both very heartfelt and inspirational. She appears to be a very courageous woman. I’m sure you are very proud of her, as you should be. Sometimes having to deal with severe adversities in one’s life can provide an individual with a different perspective on what’s really important in pursuing ones interests and career. The UD in D.C. Program certainly has its pros and cons and certainly every student (and their parents) have their own interests/expectations of what they would like to experience in starting college. Writing a book about these things sounds very intriguing to me-good luck with it. IMHO I believe that UD will put together a good orientation and educational program for students who decide to become involved with it. Will it be perfect, probably not, but things rarely are perfect the first time you try to do anything. One thing is for sure, it will be an “experience” for those brave students who decide it would be right for them. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes to your D. Perhaps I am being bit presumptuous but allow me to be the first to welcome you and your D into the UD Family.

@NewYorkMama‌ - Congratulations to your daughter. While I don’t think my son is going to explore it – probably in no small part to the fact that we live quite close to American in suburban MD – I will chime in to say that I am quite familiar with the AU neighborhood. While “in the city,” it is four or five Metro stops from downtown, and in a very nice and generally very safe area of the city. I could definitely see it as being great experience for anyone who’d like to have a DC experience.

Anyone have any idea what’s up with all the kids left waiting now that acceptances and spring acceptances are out? Six months for my sons friend and 51/2 for him. No one in our area has been denied so son figures he going to be. He has a great app equally or better then some friends already accepted. Really hard to understand. Anyhow congrats to all and good luck to the few remaining kids keep your heads up and make your impact no matter where the process takes you!

I’ve never heard of this UD in DC program before. Is it something exclusively for out of state students? I know UD tries to give priority to us in-state folk but I’m unsure if thats why they are giving this as an option to some folk.

There has been no mention on this thread about this being offered to in-state students so I suspect it is being offered just to OOS students. These OOS students have been accepted to UD in the Spring of 2016 and UD is offering this option for students to obtain course credits at the UD/AU program and then can transfer these credits to UD when they formally maticulate on-site at UD in the Spring of 2016. Other options are also available as well (placement on wait list for Fall 2015, just starting college at UD in Spring 2016, or students could attend classes elsewhere and transfer these credits to UD when they begin in Spring 2016). Students can elect none of these and attend college elsewhere or select any number of the 3 options (Spring 2016 admission, wait list for Fall 2015, UD/AU Program). While there may be a number of reasons UD is initiating this, the bottom line is that UD does not have enough space to accept all the qualified OOS applicants for Fall 2015 but will have some available space in the Spring of 2016 as a small number of students (for various reasons) will not be returning to UD in the Spring. Other possible reasons have been noted on this and other threads regarding this topic (It probably is a combination of a number of things).

@nelson97‌ @wa7945‌ I thought for sure udel would update the portals by yesterday but of course not. Dont understand how they can be the only college not ready to give descions! Its like we were waitlisted!

Nah, @sagmae17 - it’s like they lost the applications

Ah that makes sense. Guess the people who have had no decision will just have to sweat it out at this juncture. It really is a bother to people who have their whole future kind of tilting on this school being super slow with decisions. I’m just hoping my study abroad this year heightens my chances at getting into their language program.

One thing that got clarified when I called the school. You can’t go to another school in the Fall 0f 2015 (other than the American University program), and have an automatic acceptance in the Spring 2016. One would have to reapply as a transfer student and go through the whole application process again. If you go to the American University Program, you automatically get those credits transferred, those credits are not questioned, and from the outset are considered an admitted student for spring 2016 upon sending in your acceptance letter that they send you and the enrollment fee that is to be included. What this does, among other things, is remove the possibility of not getting accepted in the Spring of 2016. I also wonder what bearing this will have on the possibilities of Spring Admission 2016 for those students who are transferring as students from other universities.

My daughter received the udel to dc offer letter in the mail monday. She mailed in her deposit yesterday. We live in NJ. Shes excited to go to udel & thrilled with the dc experience. She would be disappointed to start udel in fall, bc she feels a semester in dc will be a great learning experience & fun. Maybe my kid is just weird lol. Not sure if it matters but she applied regular decision, not early.

Just got an email from UD. Apparently the admissions office destroys transcripts after a year (I’ve applied before) and when I looked closer, they said not to send it to them but to the registrars office instead. They also said they are sending my decisions letter in the mail soon. I think this may be a good sign!

I emailed them the question about attending community college in the fall and starting UD in the spring a few days ago and have not gotten an answer yet. :frowning:

Your answer sounds like that is a no go.

Waitlisted; saw it on the portal this afternoon. Choices were waitlist for both fall and sping; waitlist for fall only; no waitlist

What were your credentials like?

My DD was a borderline applicant which we knew from the outset. GPA 3.3 (W 4.0); SATs 1580; tons of sports as extracurriculars. We have two sons who are current UD students and she did the optional interview (which went well) which we had hoped would tip the scale for her. She accepted WL immediately - not sure if they will get to it after last year (our freshman son was in a forced triple due to the number of acceptances last year). She applied as a Health and Behavioral Science major. Talked to admissions who said it was first come first serve by major.

Cant believe they took this long just to waitlist me

Does she have any backup schools? I think as a freshmen I had some similar credentials except I only had a few sports and mostly arts and language club. I think if you wait it out there may be a good chance she will get in.

Just as an added piece of information, for those who are responding to offers of the American Univ/Spring 2016 acceptance at UDel, I hurriedly sent in the letter and our deposit on Tuesday, ran to the post office and realized I did not have a street address for UDel Admissions Office. I sent it out anyway, with a return receipt requested. I just got the return receipt today in the mail, so it’s ok if you don’t have the street address on the envelope with your response. It will get there. The form that my daughter was sent to return with her preferences for admission did not include a street address. I was concerned it might get lost in the shuffle. It didn’t.

@2Kawaii4Senpai - yes, she was accepted to St. Joe’s, West Chester, Kutztown, Loyola, Rowan and Cabrini. Need to go to admitted student’s days and take a good look at her choices. She is hopeful that maybe she might be accepted in the spring (she picked WL for both semesters).

Ah, West Chester my old stomping grounds! I’m sure unlike my first go around, she will be a wonderful student. Good luck in the future.
