Has anyone heard yet? I am thinking that decisions should be made soon, right?

^^From kksmom’s post above, it sounds like they HAVE been made, but I haven’t heard about anyone getting notification yet (and I’ve been obsessively stalking College Confidential for news!). Since they’re in the middle of their spring mainstage production (last weekend and the one coming up) and will be on spring break next week, I bet things are pretty crazy around their theatre office. Alas, things are pretty crazy around here, too, as my son is going nuts waiting. We need to learn to meditate or something!

I feel like a lunatic up checking to see if others have heard so at least we will know. It’s a good lesson in letting go for me EVERY SINGLE DAY right now. I feel like Pavlov’s dog when I hear the mailbox slam shut - running to see what’s inside…refreshing the email…checking the CC posts. Ugh. Will be so glad when calls are made, letters are in, emails sent and I can stop obsessing about this!

Since my D is on Spring break this week, the waiting has been much more difficult! I suggested yesterday that she learn to drive on the Houston freeways - she jumped at the idea. “Anything to distract me from the phone, Mom” Since she has been avaoiding this for over a year, I can see just how desparate she was!

actsandsings-I’m right there with you. It helps to know I’m not the only lunatic on the block!

MTDancerMom-glad our spring break is after Easter hopefully we will have choices and visits to make. My D would be the same way if she wanted to practice driving on the freeway I would know she’s desperate.

Someone that my D knows heard —BUT she is tech so maybe we will all hear soon! My D is in the middle of rehearsals for spring show, she is not as crazy about the waiting as I am!

Yes, there’s been one tech acceptance posted over on the theater/drama forum; she heard by letter (I think on Monday?). Looks like performing notifications must be later. The suspense is killing me…!

Apparently the calls are starting. My S had a message on his cell phone.

My son just got a call from Teri Devlin–accepted for Acting!! This has been his clear first-choice school all year! It doesn’t seem real. SO EXCITED right now! Thanks to all for putting up with my obsessive posts! :D

Congrats Times3!

Times3…so excited when a top choice school aligns with an acceptance!! Congratulations.

I saw an MT acceptance on FB

Yay Times3!!! So happy for your son!

My D just got acceptance call. Sadly, we just don’t know enough about this program! It was on our list because of strong dance, opportunities for academic scholarship and relative proximity. She had just about made up her mind for another program (this is her 3rd acceptance) now we’re kind of thrown for a loop. Thought with only 4 girls selected this would be a long shot–good audition experience and nothing more. Anyone have feedback for us? She would be a dance concentration–what does that mean exactly? What is the campus vibe? Are their kids successful after school? Is it a “church” school? Help!

Congrats to those accepted so far! Shellbell1, it is a very strong program. My D is a senior MT with dance concentration, and I feel strongly that she has grown in all aspects of performance. If you haven’t been on campus yet, definitely schedule a visit soon. It is a small campus and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church, but it is not a churchy environment unless you want that. It is in an excellent area of the Columbus metro, but really feels kind of small town-ish. Most of the students besides the theatre kids are from Ohio, so it does tend to clear out some on weekends at times. It draws theatre kids from all over the country, and they get pretty close since it is a small program and many of them are from far away. The MT with dance conc is kind of like getting a dance minor - they dance everyday basically. The dance staff is excellent. I think there are many successful alums - for example, a 2012 grad is out there already with recurring roles on 2 TV shows. Send me specific questions if you like - and best of luck with your decision! I remember going through that, and it’s not easy!!

Shellbell, I hope you guys can visit, and that your daughter can sit in on a class or see a performance. It’s just a wonderful place, both nurturing and intense, and the quality of the productions we’ve seen (including a dance concert) has been superb. I very much encourage you to visit and talk with the faculty and admissions folks. There is just a ton of community support for the program. Oh and p.s., we haven’t noticed a churchy vibe at all, but we have heard that the local Methodist church provides big feasts for the Otterbein students on exam nights! :)

My son was just accepted for acting although he is also a strong dancer and singer. They let him know at the audition that he could audition for any of the musicals even though they were also really interested in him for the acting program. They spoke with him about his other strong academic (non-performing) interests, and that acting would give him the possibility of pursuing those more easily. Research time! Times 3 and MTMomma — appreciate all the info on the school that is being posted. Thank you!

I have a student that’s a sophomore at Otterbein but for Vocal Performance. Most of her classes are mixed with MTs and I get the impression everyone absolutely loves the program. I can reach out to her to see if any of her MT friends would be willing to chat with your kids that have been admitted and have questions if that would be helpful to you all!

Also-- CONGRATS! :D

The BFA MT and Acting majors all are required to try out for all shows. Frequently the MTs are in non-musicals, and vice-versa. Their acting classes are together. Many of the acting majors are strong in vocal as well, and some are strong dancers, too. There are many opportunities to perform!

Times3, do you know if all calls were made today? I’m guessing so…
