Any Questions for a Current UCLA Student(s)?

^
Unfortunately they do not. They are in RT because that is where they are staying for Orientation. During Orientation, you have to go to their room and sign up for classes, it sounds weird, lol. It’s super nice, I would be thrilled to have gotten RT, really. It’s one of the newer buildings and it’s right next to Rendezvous!

I’m an Anthro major, but I want to take a few courses outside my major. I saw restriction on a Comm course “Consent of Instructor Required.” How difficult is it to get into these courses and would it be possible to get consent at orientation?

@gcarrillojr: I visited my friend who lives in Rieber Terrace last month and it was really nice, just like Rheel3 said. I was really hoping to get RT after I sent in my housing application… and I got it! a double too.

The building seriously feels like you’re at a nice hotel. Rooms are moderately sized (she had a triple). Only thing is that the walk is pretty far from campus, but honestly you’ll get used to it after your 3rd or 4th week. Walking from my apartment here at UCR to campus takes around 20 minutes. At first it seemed like a lot, now I don’t even notice how long it takes. Just blast them tunes on your ipod haha

To SMCguy: I don’t recommend taking communication courses, because they’re super hard to get into…even for comm majors. Don’t you also have to be a communications major? Anyways, for the consent, you need to speak to the professor and they will give you a PTE number which you will enter upon registering to the course.

And yes about the walking…although RT is nice, I would be in DeNeve any day. I take 10-11 minutes to get to North campus from DeNeve and from Rieber it would take 15-17. You’ll get used to it, but the first weeks its like “what a workout!”

I feel relieved to know more about Rieber Terrace now. Got into a double with my room mate. Thanks for the info guys :)

Just looked at the class schedule, I’ve got a perfect schedule picked out, now I need to figure out some back ups haha. Fingers crossed I can get the classes I want.

^
Have lotsss of backups. Your OC will tell you this too, just in case. By the time your Orientation comes, I’m sure all of the classes will be filled up and will be WL/closed.

Good luck! I’m glad the day/hour is showing up now. Guess we had to wait until a bit later!

I’m currently enrolled in 2 classes (8 units) for the summer session and have received my eFan accordingly. I’m considering taking a 3rd class, possibly in Session C which would essentially be free since it’d bump me to 13 units qualifying for an extra 1k for the University Grant. My question is, since the application deadline already passed, would be eFan stay the same or would FA adjust to my new enrollment if I were to add the class?

@RheeL3
Is it really that hard to get the classes you want even for upper div classes? Does this stay the same for the next time I enroll?

^
I don’t want to say “hard” but it is difficult to get your first choice courses. You’ll see, before your Orientation/on your orientation date, check back to the schedule of classes, you’ll see everything full. It gets better after Fall because since you’re a junior, you’ll have a better enrollment date.

To belkster: I’m not sure if you paid attention to it, but Financial Aid straight up told us that if we add more units, they wouldn’t give you any more $$. However, if you do drop units, they might charge you (and they will!). In other words, even if you do bump up to full time, you wouldn’t get any more money.

Hey Tiffany,

Quick question about parking permits. Is there any other option when living on campus? My housing option is Sunset Village and Im a DMA major. Should I apply asap?

Hey tiffany
I thought they “save” some spots for incoming students?

Ah gotcha, must’ve forgotten that part of the application. Thanks for the clarification!

^
No problem!

To calile89: They do for some classes. For example, Psychology 100A&B they do because you HAVE to take those the first two quarters you’re here, but that’s for a Psychology/Psychobiology major, so it all depends on your major.

To johzpark: Yes, why haven’t you already?! Parking is super difficult to get! Do you have an off-campus job? It would be easier to get a permit if you actually demonstrate to them that you NEED a car. That being said, I also do know someone who doesn’t work, or have a real “need” for her car and got a permit anyways…I don’t know how she got it, but yep…good luck!

Hi Tiffany,

Do you have any general advice/tips for the transfer orientation? I do have one specific question. I am aware that we are allowed to begin enrolling in classes during our session with our OC, however it is one required to enroll into all of our desired classes during the session with counselor, or can you finish enrolling into classes anytime after you have met with your counselor?

^
That is a very good question, thank you for bringing it up! You are required to enroll with your OC, that is mandatory. No matter how cool your OC is, if you bring your own laptop or try to enroll when they give you the “go” they will trip out and say “no”, hahaha. However, after the initial enrollment, if you decide to switch classes or saw another that you wanted to join you are free to do so afterwards.

As for the Orientation…I couldn’t attend all of it because I had a doctor’s appointment, but I didn’t miss much, just the boring sign-in/lecture whatever, that stuff isn’t needed. Oh and also…be prepared to stay until 9PM, no joke. When the Orientation site says you will stay that long…they’re serious, you will, haha.

Anymore questions let me know! If I think more about the Orientation…I’ll let you know. But it’s boring, especially if you already have your classes figured out. Well…at least you can get to know the campus while you wait!

Have to go study for finals tomorrow, last ones!

Hi Rhee - hope your finals went really well!!

So if I miss the first couple of hours of orientation I’m not missing much? I was thinking about getting there around 10 - 11am trying avoid having to spend more $$ on paying for a room somewhere the night before and having to leave at 4 am to miss the worst of the traffic from the Riverside area. I heard the first couple of hours aren’t really “necessary”…

^
Where do you live?! You don’t have to be there, in fact, it’s really pointless to be there in the beginning unless you want to hear the talks and those are boring. At around 11-noon you’ll meet up in KH quad (2nd floor) and meet your OC. Then is when it starts!

do you know where the schedule for fall 2011 is?

[Schedule of Classes Home Page](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/schedule/schedulehome.aspx)

this place only has summer.

Hi  I was wondering if parents can come to orientation or is it only for students? When I was at my four year college parents and students came but just had different sessions to go to. Is it like this at UCLA?
