Anyone accepted outside of top 10% yet?

Tim739: Were you out of top 10?

My top 10% acceptance (2 years ago) didn’t come through until feb 10th, a friends (last year) didn’t come through until late January. Don’t worry yet.

Edit: Also, the 10% rule is now modified. 75% of the incoming freshman class will be filled from the top 10, (starting with first percent, then second) after that UT has carte blanche to accept whoever they want.

Jacobsladder: Doesnt the 75% cap for 10%-ers go into effect for 2011-2012 school year

soanxious - correct. The new 75% rule is not in effect until 2011.

Yes, I was out of the top ten %

collgebound214 I think you have a good chance your stats are pretty high I mean you got a 33 ACT score I think that should help discard the fact you aren’t in the top 10 and your GPA is good too.

And plan2, like bhp is not bound by the top 10 rule. They can admit holistically, so those with great scores and essays (plan2 esp) can gain admittance.

Just to add to the discussion, I found out today that I got accepted outside the top 10% (I attend a non-ranking school). I’m a Texas resident but living abroad. So yes, decisions for non-top10ers are being released. I applied early November.

congrats hb730! and really early November?? I applied mid October and still nothing :[

Hey hb730, what are your stats? And congrats!

can you still send in the C essay - if you have submitted your application? My daughter has been in the processing pile for ages as a non top 10% candidate. I wonder if it would make a difference even?

Unless she talked about something extraordinary or extreme in the third essay it isn’t worth it.
You would have to call and speak with admissions, mail it (and have it get there by December 15th).

Manyamile- I was accepted outside of the top ten % and didn’t write Essay C. Besides, the admission committee has probably already made their decision, sending the essay was just delay things and frustrate them. I would highly recommend you don’t send it

Re: JacobsLadder’s and ag54’s posts on previos page …

Isn’t going to be 80% of top 10%er’s? That’s what our newspaper has been saying. As opposed to 75%. Or is the paper wrong? (wouldn’t be the first time)

OK - That is good to hear - just keeping fingers crossed then!

wow, I feel really unprepared.
I’m top 28% because I go to a really competitive high school and I got many B’s. I still haven’t turned in my app yet! I think that it doesn’t look very good. I’m going to turn it in tonight though - seems really late.
SAT - 2200
ACT - 30
natural born citizen, texas resident…
and i’m doing essay A, B, C…
majors: 1st choice - pre-Pharmacy, 2nd choice - Astronomy
worked a lot in a dental office during the summer, 200/300 hours of volunteer work.
I think i’m borderline, what do y’all think?

Wow, definitely must be competitive looking at the high contrast between your rank and sat. I would say you are borderline too just because texas cares so much about the rank.

Good luck.

See exerpt from article:

And:

does it make a difference on when we hear back if we are out of state?

I applied mid-november and I am just curious.

@utfor11: I don’t mean to boast, but I did have a 2400 and 4.0uw, maybe that’s why I found out so early? My dad also happens to have graduated from UT; does that make a difference? Hopefully you’ll all find out soon :p
