Anyone applying to the Wesleyan Freeman Scholarship?

Do you think it would be okay to ask a teacher to evaluate me, instead of my school counselor? I know, we've teacher evaluations already, but General Studies don't really fit into Humanities/Natural Sciences... Counselor doesn't really know me, and anyway she's too busy to be bothered with evaluations (she asked me to write it on my own! -_-).

General Studies... A Levels? I'm sorry I didn't help before. I hope you solved this issue. :)

And that's quite weird...telling you to write your own evaluation!

Hmm I think its possible to get a teacher to write ur final school report, so long as she can provide the required information and ur relevant transcripts. You might even include a note explaining y a teacher is doing it and not the counselor (because she asked u to write it ur own!), it may put u in a gd light lol. honesty and integrity!

General studies? I assume that's something like General Paper in A Levels? I think that's more of humanities than Natural Sciences...

hey! malaysian too.

@the person who knows someone who got into wesleyan with a shcolarship without f6: are you definitely, absolutely sure? 'cos they specifically say that they cannot, under whatsoever circumstances, consider malaysian applicants wihtout f6/a lvls. mmm.

@everyone else, hey! =)

Thanks, Izzy and woebegone. I got my Form 6 teacher co-ordinator to do it--found a loophole: 'Director of Studies.' :)

And ya, General Studies is similar to General Paper at A-levs

haha okie dat's gd enlit, but is it done already? the deadline is creeping by...

and i hate general paper.

I experienced one semester of General Paper. It's entirely random, and it doesn't really teach you how to...think analytically or critically. It was a really bizarre class. We went from presentation about divorce to cloning to cities?

Erm it teaches you nothing except to write in a fixed manner: Thesis - Anthetisis - Synergy. But worst of all is the assessment. So random and arbitrary! The best guy in my class in general paper ended up getting a B3 in his A Levels (I dun think he's ever gotten that kind of grade during his sch exams), whereas some who usually barely pass end up getting A2s or even A1s... Yeah I am complaining coz I wasn't so lucky. :(

:( hands you chocolate

My teacher didn't even give us pointers on writing the essay. Oh well, I went from that to TOK. Not any better but at least that teacher tries to help us.

hmm what's TOK?

Theory of Knowledge, part of IB. Main questions guiding the course is "What do I know?" and "How do I know what I know?" Hopefully the teachers who teach this course don't get too cynical...

ic... basically critical thinking? (or cynical thinking lol)

Yeah, kind of like that.

Happy New Year, guys.

Happy new yr! (though i think in most parts of the world its not yet 2006...)

General Studies here is more like taking govt propaganda and Malay... critical thinking? uh... i doubt its existence in M'sian schools

lol ok... that sounds like social studies here.

Haha, ya, that's what my friends in S'pore say. :)

actually critical thinking does exist, according to out government. it's called kbkk, remember? kemahiran berfikir secara kritis dan kreatif.

but they should probably rename it to what it really is: kbkk menurut propaganda kerajaan dan skema jawapan.

(translation: critical thinking according to government propaganda and the inviolate answer scheme)
