I just got my acceptance, I was wondering who else is considering going here.

why don't you check out the thread below yours? there's four or five of us here that have either applied to or have been accepted to the school. Congrats on your acceptance. What other schools did you apply to? Was GMU a safety, match, or reach for you?

It was a safety, but they gave me a good scholarship, i just haven't really heard a lot about the school on cc. I also applied to NYU, American, UT Austin, SMU, and some others

Yeah, I wouldn't expect a lot of the CC folk to show any interest in a second/third tier, public school...

Interestnig variety of schools you've applied to. I don't know how much your scholarship is worth (btw, congrats on that!), but I think if I was in your situation and was accepted to NYU, I'd pick it over GMU anyday-- no matter the worth of the scholarship. That's just my opinion though. I'm not saying GMU is bad in any way. It's just that NYU has sort of always been my dream, though always out-of-reach, school. sighs...Anyway, good luck.

Btw, what school is SMU?

southern methodist university

english05: have you received your acceptance/rejection letter yet? just curious, because, even though it may seem too early, someone in one of the VaTech threads claims to have received his, and I just found out that someone from my school received his two weeks ago. both, i think, were RD applicants.

i just got my rejection letter from tech today - i think i am going to appeal, are you?

i still haven't heard from gmu because i just found out my guidance department didn't send out my second semester grades, so hopefully they will get there on time and i'll still be considered.

i haven't heard from jmu yet..... :[

You know, you probably were so close to getting in at VaTech (actually, I just posted a message about this in the VaTech section), that maybe appealing is something worth checking out.

both JMU and GMU confirmed they have everything they need from me, but I have yet to hear from either of them. Once you do get in your stuff for GMU, I definitely don't think you need to worry; you're a shoe-in for that school. JMU will obviously be tougher, but I think your chances are still strong. As I'm beginning to learn, starting with the VaTech rejection, the GPA is much much more important for these VA schools than I thought. a 3.01 isn't even considered decent anymore, hopefully your 3.2 will do it for you. good luck, fhshortie08!

god, am I stupid or what? and i just noticed this too... the original poster clearly stated that he was accepted to GMU, yet I asked him yesterday if he had received his acceptance/rejection letter. just wanted to be the first to point that out in order to save myself from even more embarrasement, that's all.

thank halfwayinthebox :] how exactly do i appeal anyways? just call them and write them? i've only been accepted to my safety, old dominion university, have you been accepted to any?

lol you aren't stupid - i thought you thought he found out he was accepted online and was wondering if he got the letter yet.

which part of virginia do you live in? (im assuming you are in va :) )

honestly, i have no idea how to appeal. maybe you should ask your counselor? if you're really serious about doing it, good luck. just keep in mind that there is probably a lot of work involved and that the percentage of succesful appeals is very very low...hope that didn't sound too discouraging, lol.

I've also only been accepted to my safety, Virginia Commonwealth University, so I'm really hoping to hear good news from at least GMU. I really should have applied to ODU as my safety instead of VCU, because, right now, I really don't think I want to live in some second-class city. bleh. If I must go to VCU though, I'll do it...for a year, and then transfer out!

Right now I live overseas. I've only lived in Fairfax County for two years, and that was during my middle school years. So far, both VaTech and VCU have considered me in-state. I'll have to wait until decision letters come out to find out how the other schools classified me. So what about you? Where in VA do you live?

Norfolk, same city as ODU (that's why I have no desire to go there...lol)

wow overseas huh? which country? i've never traveled out of north america :\ lol

I was also accepted to Va Tech, American, and probably James Madison. At the moment I would rather go to George Mason.

American is too expensive.
Virginia Tech is in the middle of nowehere and only has 41% female population.
JMU is 97% caucasion.

I don't consider myself a 2nd-3rd tier student, even though some consider GMU to be so, but I should point out that I plan on going to law school after I graduate. (So I want to go to a cheap college which I can easily get a high GPA)

i got accepted at mason but i live like 10min away from campus so i dont really want to be living at home

fhshortie08: i've actually never been to norfolk, but i can totally understand why anyone wouldn't want to attend a school in the town they live in. It sort of contradicts the whole purpose and excitiment of attending college... I live in Japan.

tron123: the house i lived in in VA is about 15 minutes from GMU. if you don't mind me asking, what highschool do you attend? if i was still living there, i would be attending West Springfield HS.

and sohrab, is jmu really THAT white, or were you just exaggerating to make a point?

lol actually it is that white. i visited and they were def. the majority. its funny cuz i visited my cousin in her dorm and her roomate is of a middle eastern descent and my cousin is asian so they stuck two minorities together. i just looked at the website and it said: 87% caucasian and 13% minorities, so yeah, there ya go.

my aunt went to JMU, and it is NOT 97% caucasian.. I assure you lol

but it is true that very low % minority students go there compared to other VA state schools (like gmu), but according to my aunt everyone gets along :D

usnews.com says jmu is 89% white

gmu is like a community college. so is jmu lol. that's what I heard

GMU might seem like a community college, because it's popular with commuters, but is JMU really like that too? And even if they are, I don't get what's so funny about that.
