Davis has a really strong bio program and a far more superior med school than irvine. I think you need to do some research before you decide legitly on where to go. (e.g. us news..go seach the forums)

Yeah... I really liked it as well. As soon as I saw places like the mondalvi center and the arc I was completely blown away (You MUST go inside the arc!). I don't know but I had the impression when I was visiting davis that there was an undercurrent there.... like the school was about to suddenly explode. They had places like mondalvi and arc founded in just these past few years and everyone seems excited about the translation to division I.

As for the campus, I liked the entire "park" feel. It felt like it had a sense of community and school spirit that many of the UC's are sorely lacking.

Still... I'm between irvine and davis... I'm doing a poly sci and I know that Irv has a better program but davis has better internships. I loved my irvine tour as well too. ARggggh!

ownownage: So Davis has a better bio department than Irvine? Hmmmm, I thought Irvine had the best of the three. How does it rank up against SB?

I excuse myself for being so ignorant at this point, I haven't started any hard research yet...

well if you look up graduate rankings on US news and stuff davis is ranked highest for med school...and i read somewhere that davis graduates more students with bio degrees than any other campus in the US. I think you just gotta search the forums a bit to find out.

megathunder- i know how you feel! i'm trying to decide between irvine and davis as well. ucsd completely let me down and accepted me for winter quarter while accepting othe people at my school with completly lower stats. it sucks. the only thing that's driving me away from irvine is how asian it is. my current school is like 60 % asian and i guess i'm just looking for something different. i went to an irvine reception the other day and they went on about how they have one of the best bio/research department in the nation, plus the fact that they just received an additional $900,000 grant for one of the science departments.

like ownownage said, davis is ranked higher than irvine for graduate school as well as undergrad on US news. but the ranking is overall, so it doesn't tell us much about the departments. haha, i'm sorry, i was probably no help whatsoever. but good luck with deciding! i'm sure you'll be happy wherever you go!

Hey, any discussion always provides some insight.

Since we are looking at the same major as well as the same schools lana, I was wondering if you also got accepted to SB? Because I'm actually tilted a little towards them at this point because I heard they have a strong bio program(albeit probably statistically inferior to davis) and great research opportunities.

So what I'm looking for is the overall best college experience, location, people, quality of education, lifestyle, etc, and so right now SB has an edge over the other three for me.

All IMO, ofcourse, interested in what you have to say...

i went to ucd welcome and i was pretty impressed with their engineering program (it has the most accredited majors) and their internship program is crazy ( i think that will definitely help me out for grad school/ work over rep of a school like ucsd)......only thing i didnt like was the allergies cuz of all the dust and flowers they got over there.

i am checking out ucsd next week and hopefully i will be able to decide after that but i can definitely picture myself going to davis (gotta bring a bottle of allergies pills with me) and being successful.

megathunder- i got into sb as well, but haven't really looked at their bio department yet. i think that sb is most well-rounded, you can get a good education there and have a great time as well, plus the campus is beautiful and if you like the beach, the location is perfect. i'm going to re-visit irvine and sb this weekend and davis the week after. so i'll let you know if i find out anything interesting while i'm there!

My D is deciding betwee several colleges including UCD and UCSD with UCD being significantly closer to home. One program that I thought looked interesting was the Honors program at UCD which basis admission on an essay, not High School GPA. The Honors program offers special housing, advisors and assistance with finding scholarships in addition to the typical seminars and academic work.

Law schools tend to favor UCSD over UCD (6 vs. 1 to Harvard last year)
but the feeling that Davis is about to blossom is everywhere, I suspect UCSD is also climbing fast. It wouldn't surprise me if they both become the standard in the future.

haha, to anyone who was at the welcome on saturday and watched the first presentation in that huge auditorium, how funny was it when that kid asked if there was a cap on the bandwidth at uc davis??? i couldnt help but laugh my ass off.
