Anyone notified by their high school about NMF results?

Letter received today!

Son got finalist letter today!!! Bama bound!!

I got my letter yesterday (2/10) here in SoCal. My counselor actually asked me a day before if I’d heard anything from the NMSC, so I guess I’m the first from my school to know. :P

D received her letter in the mail today. Still haven’t heard anything from the school.

Nope. I got my Finalist letter in the mail today though.

Got mine today! I didn’t even know they were being sent out - my school hasn’t said anything.

rec’d at home in NC yesterday - still nothing from the school

Same here.

My school gave me the NMF certificate at school yesterday.

Son received his letter in the mail on Saturday (Feb 11). Congratulations to everyone here who has received their finalist notifications!

My friends and I all received our letters today (the 13th) and we’re situated out in the boonies of Eastern Washington.

Our High School is FINALLY giving out the certificates next week at the school board meeting! Talk about being late to the party. They wanted to make it “special”, but I would rather have gotten the notice sooner myself…

Similar story. D’s school plans to hold onto the certificate until May so that they can present it at the Senior Awards Night. That is all fine and good but it would have been nice if they had at least told her rather than making her wait to get it in the mail on the 11th. They never said anything to her letting her know that they had even received it.

Congratulations to all!

My school still hasn’t said anything, and probably won’t until May. Our district bragged about all the semifinalists in the fall, like it was much bigger news. (And it probably is; most NMSFs make NMF anyway.)

That seems to be the case here too. All of the papers listed the NMSF from our area in the fall. A few of the schools have independently submitted their student’s names to the papers but there hasn’t been a complete list. For those students that plan to take advantage of one of the free rides, it would certainly be nice to find out in a timely manner! I guess on the bright side, at least you know that you will be getting some sort of recognition at the Senior Awards Night! :)

It seems like NMSF status is given to the media, but NMF status is not. I wonder why?

I would guess the numbers would give some sort of reason. From the PSAT to knowing that you still have a shot, it’s from ~1.5 million to ~50,000. From that to NMSF, it drops to ~16,000, and then from there it’s only a comparably minor fall to ~15,000 finalists. That’s not as major of a narrowing as from PSAT to NMSF.

Gambler- you are probably correct. It is too bad for the kids that there isn’t a press release since it is the Finalist status that makes you eligible for so many things. A few of the private schools have posted their students that are finalists in the paper. If you would like for your child and others that you know to get recognition in the paper then you can submit the information yourself and they will put it in for you (it is free to do). I have never done this but I know others that have.

We got the certificate last night at the school board meeting. I found out one reason it took so long…they had the certificates mounted into fancy plaques for each student! Obviously, they are a little excited about this which does make me happy.

Debbie! Such nice news!
