Match. GPA is lowest factor.

low-reach, its the GPA that is pulling you down.

Do you have any other EC’s that exemplify leadership or anything of that sort?

No offense, but you sound like a stereotypical Asian…You’re GPA is quite low, but your SAT is quite high. You should have focused more on ECs earlier during high school. Colleges want to see how well-rounded a student is.

See the UC Statfinder link listed below. Click on “Custom Tables”, answer a few questions, and put in up to 3 “mean characteristics”:

[University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/)

yeah that’s the thing I regret. I couldn’t put as much time into EC because I would suffer on the educational side. Unfortunately I’m not talented enough to do many ECs and keep up my grades + SAT.

As for leadership, does this count?
In 9th grade, school orchestra, I was the section leader for a group of violins for the entire year. I just pretty much look after them and teach them how to play when we do sectionals. Although we don’t have alot of sectionals (once every two weeks?). Not much leadership roles after that though -.-

Mid reach. GPA is very low. EC’s are so so. It’s not looking that great for you right now but you should try to write the statements as best as you can.

Sure it counts, but won’t count for much. First, its 9th grade, and there is no consistency or progression in your later years, which is what they look for.

Good luck.

I think that the GPA is kind of low for UCI admissions and the SAT is very average.

But, it depends on the Major you are applying for.

Personally, I think Engineering, Business, and Nursing majors are the hardest to get in.

However, the first generation college student does help and it is good for a first college generation student.

Try to do better on the next SAT: try for a 2000 or greater and the chance will be better.

So, the chance is very average unless the SAT scores are a little better.

Even if you are admitted, the courses are very competitive and this is coming from a CHP freshman.

Good luck on getting admitted to UCI and the Anteater family.

thanks for the comments. I am now even more nervous -.-

also applying as a Civil Engineer

There is also the ACT test for college admissions.

For me, the ACT scores was higher than the SAT scores.

Anyway, the ACT does not take off points for guessing, so a wrong answer does not hurt you in any way.

Maybe take it in December?

Also, a good personal statement about overcoming the hardships could help the case.

For ECs, I do not think it is as important as GPA or test scores.

Have you taken any AP/Honors classes?

Yeah I have taken AP/Honors courses

Algebra 2 Honors (not credited for bonus points :frowning: )
AP Chemistry
AP Biology
AP Physics B
AP Calculus AB
AP Computer Science

so does major actually matter in applying? UCI isn’t impacted in Civil Engineering is it?
