Ap Art History

I think the odalisque is Romantic, and I totally forgot who did it, because there are many odalisques...

the answer was rococo, so you were close.

neoclassical and it was painted by ingres.

speaking of ingres, what painter also did a portrait of Paganini? (hint: a romantic)

wow. okay. here are some buzz words and key phrases instead of a paragraph.

Neoclassical:
order, balance, harmony, reserved, "don't let the brushstrokes show", precise

Romanticism:
emotion, passion, energy, colour, grand

hmmm..i could've swore that it was romantic, due to the exotic setting...

uhmmm....Delacriox?

that is the argument about it, but, Ingres is classified as a Neoclassical painter. so, i figured (as did my teacher and Gardner's Art Through the Ages book), that the work is neoclassical.

it's romantic, i'm pretty sure. it's heavily idealized with the extra vertebrae and the lavished setting.
i don't think it had anything to do with portrayal of a historical event.

all right. fine with me.

who did the isenheim altarpiece?

One way to easily tell the difference between romantic and neclassicism is that neoclassicism is sharp and looks like a photo, while romantic you can almost see the brush strokes and it has texture. An example of Romanticism would be: Goya's "Third of May" (or something like that)...An example of Neoclassicism would be "Benjamin West's "The Death of General Wolfe"

earlier, a question asked about Hogarth and it said he was in the Baroque period. well, i see here in my text that he is associated with the enlightenment. just a sidenote.

Gruenwald..

who did the burial of count orgaz?

i'm not sure about that question. In which mausoleum would you find the mosaic Christ as the Good Shepherd?

el greco.

what is a mandorla?

galla placidia in ravenna.

name two surrealists.

a mandola is the beam-like halo around religious figures mainly jesus christ to signify god-like relativity.

Futurism--what that?

Dali and Picasso actually had some surrealist works, i think.

Man Ray and Salvador Dali...

Actually, just Dali and Kahlo.
I wouldn't be able to name one of Picasso's.
and, has anyone else seen that picture of that lady's head with breasts and a vagina for her facial features?

futurists advocated revolution and such. they felt that war was cleansing.

Name two artists who did portraits.
