AP Awards

Hey- I was wondering, does the AP Music Theory exam not count when they add up how many tests you took for the AP Scholar award? The website said that "aural and nonaural subscores" are not taken into account. Can anyone help?

it counts. aural and nonaural subscores means subscores don't count. but ur AP test grade counts. like for Calc BC u get a subscore...that doesn't count

What is a subscore?

Many AP tests don't have subscores, but a few do.

Is it worth putting one of these awards in the "Awards" section of your app? My school/location isn't exactly the most awards-oriented (even the ivy bound students here aren't teeming with awards/recognitions) so I'd still have room to put it.

Of course it's worthwhile.

agreed...put it down

do you actually get formally awarded AP awards, or is it up to you to figure which award you get? my school never mentions it...

yah. do the awards come by mail?

^yeah you get a little certificate sometime in the fall from CB...it really didn't seem like a big deal to me at all. pretty anticlimatic after nearly killing yourself over taking all those AP's in the first place and then driving yourself insane over trying to actually do well.

Okay, what if your scores indicate that you have won an award, but you didn't get one in the mail? Am I missing something?

The 2008 awards haven't been mailed yet, I'm pretty sure.

First of all, you never get the certificate until late summer. For seniors, my son was somehow notified by senior awards night in May so maybe they do seniors first. By all means, write this award down, especially if you do not plan on reporting your AP scores on the application (I guess some don't ask). You should be proud.

I really don't think the awards themselves count. It's the fact you took so many AP's that count. I think when they see your list of AP courses and scores, that's what'll impressive them. I don't get why people even bother to put that award. It's just a repeat of another section of your application.

wait im confused?
im a senior now and i took 1 AP in sophmore year and three in junior year and got 5's on all of them? wouldnt that make me an AP Scholar with Honor?

i got my scores in the mail, but there was no mention on it about awards...there were explanations about them, but nothing i remember indicating that i got the award. am i supposed to get a tangible certificate in the mail? does anyone know when they are being mailed out? did anyone get one yet? should it have said on my score sheet that came in july that i was a possible candidate? do i call college board to make sure?

also, if im applying EA, and the certificate doesnt come on time, can i write that i am an AP Schoalr with Honor or i cant?

You will receive a certificate from CB sometime in early October. If you apply to any schools before you actually receive the official notification, you can just list "AP Scholar with Honor (pending)" on your application.
