AP Chem Grades

did anyone get a 5 on ap chem? did you feel you did well after the test or were you shocked?

Yep
I felt unsure abt it because i didnt kno what to expect on the curve
i knew i would get 4 or 5 (unless i like wrote in spanish by accident...)

I was unsure for some of the FRQs, but for the most part, I was pretty confident. :)

I got a 4, was expecting a 5. I was slightly disappointed because I felt so solid about my FR, but in the end I signed up for Gen. Chem. II so its cool.

I personally felt like there wasn't too much on the Chem test I had trouble with. On the other hand, I knew that I felt pretty comfortable with Physics B last year and ended up with a 4.. more comfortable with Physics than Chem up to the point where I was cocky about it.

I really liked the MC's and the FRQ's were good for the most part (I found out though I completely messed up a reaction and didn't draw an ion correctly...).

Then I thought, "Maybe I didn't get a 5...".
But I did, so I am thrilled!! Now I can choose to take or to not take Organic Chem!

The 'WHAT HAPPENED???!!!!' test for me was Gov this year...

I got a 5 and felt pretty confident after the test. It probably could of been much harder in my honest opinion. I am still very happy with my first AP score. :)

wow this sucks. i thought i did poorly after i finished...no chance for a 5 i guess (was hoping for a massive curve) :-(

I got a 750 on the SAT II for chem and am thinking I'll probably get a 4-5 on the AP test.

D got a 5, but she breezed through the class. Other AP scores pleasantly surprised her, but she would have really been bummed if Chem was less than 5.

think a 5 on ap pretty much gurantees near perfect on sat II chem?

SAT II Chem has an awesome curve. You'll be curved with freshman and sophomore who only took Honors or even just CP Chemistry. And people tend not to be as good at Chemistry as at Biology (the SAT II science with the worst curve).

As for the AP Chem test -- I think the reason why I've read a billion posts in this forum about how hard it was is because the people at CC are perfectionists who think they'll fail if they get 2 questions wrong. I'm one of those people. I forgot to set G to 0 and wrote HNO2 as H+ + NO2- because I forgot that weak acids aren't written the same as strong acids. I omitted quite a few MC (6 or more) and guessed on a few of them. And because of these, I totally thought I got a 3. I also studied out of Cliffnotes, the worst damn AP Chem Guide ever.

I ended up with a 5, but that's probably because I wasn't cocky and karma seems to work in the favor of the humble. =) That's also why I got a sucky 4 on AP USH.

In conclusion, the test wasn't that hard, honestly. If you just read most chapters of the College Chemistry textbook from your class and half-assed homework and lab reports (which I did), you'd get a 5. The MC was comprised of fundamental concepts, which you probably mostly learned in your non-AP chemistry class, and simple algebra. One or two of the FRQ's could've been answered without ever taking an AP Chemistry course.

Not sure.. I got a 740.. but this was when I was one of those 'freshmen who only took Honors'.
I personally felt that I learned a lot more in AP..

Got a 5 on chem, 790 on the SAT II. Dunno where I messed up but yeah, if you know the AP material well enough to get a 5 you should get an 800 without trouble.

I still can't fathom how I got a 5 (well, okay, I called like 5 minutes ago but yeah) - in retrospect I feel I was overly self-assured about my chem abilities and I came out of test feeling like I had been hit by a truck. I wanted to take the phone away from my ear during the chem score, haha, but I didn't by accident...it's very, very relieving to know it turned out well =)

nooooooooo a 5 doesn't guarantee an 800 chem. my friend got a 5 on the ap test and a 680 on chem. the questions are of a different type, and you need only like a 70% on the ap test for a 5...

Okay, that is a good point - the SAT II does have really weird questions where you need to lable two statements as true or false and then say if they relate, which tripped me up because I didn't know about them going in, so look out for question types. But I do stand by my statement that if you KNOW you know your chem well enough to get a 5, the SAT II covers essentially the same subject material (save difficult math and more advanced equilibrium) and an 800 is definitely plausible, 700+ probable.

5 AP // 800 (May 07)

best prep tool is for me was doing past free responses. I checked out a SAT chem book from the library a couple days before the test to review some topics like nuclear chemistry and complex ions that we didn't go into detail in class.

As others said, be sure to review the format of chem subject test and be able to do calculations QUICKLY in your head.

4 in chem, 780 SAT chem...did one FR backwards (mixed up a negative sign) so i guess no error carried forward...

Yeah, we took a 2 previous year's tests in class as practice, and I scored like 80-90% on the MC. BUT, my teacher said we would have the sheet with all the formulas on it during the MC, which we DIDN'T and I also think i used a calculator on a few of the questions. In any case, after the multiple choice, all the smart kids like me who didn't study AT ALL for this test looked around at eachother in a stupor. I could not believe it. It was so much harder than I expected. The FR was pretty easy though, but I realized at the end that I drew the Lews Dot Structure wrong and got the shape and the resonance structure thing wrong...

Anyway, if the cure is about 70%, I should be fine. I don't know how much the AP test 5 guarantees you a good SATII score when you can miss 30% of the questions and still get a 5... but maybe it really is just that much easier.

I got a 4 after leaving an ENTIRE FR question blank (poor time management...) so either I had a fantastic MC or the curve was pretty good this year. Anyone know what the curve is usually like as far as subscores go?

I would probably say 70% for a 5..
