I have seen the page for VT's credits awarded to good AP Scores, however, I am a bit confused. So the page is right here: http://www.registrar.vt.edu/registration/documents/ap_equivalency_1112.pdf If I receive a 5 on my AP Biology exam will I receive 8 credits for these classes:Bio-1005,1006,1015,1016?

Also just to clarify, when it says for my major social sciences are required, social sciences are history classes like AP Euro/APUSH right?

This is another helpful chart for figuring out AP credit transfer:
http://www.admiss.vt.edu/forms/ap_credit.pdf

As far as social science requirements, you can read a bit more about that here:
[Undergraduate Catalog University Academic Advising Center](Undergraduate Catalog University Academic Advising Center)

Double check, though, because some of the classes required by your major might satisfy a general education requirement at the same time.

Thanks for the chart – it was much more helpful in a simplified way.

Still a bit unclear about the social sciences thing however… I plan to major in something at Pamplin.

AP Credits can satisfy general ed requirements correct?

AP Credits can satisfy Gen Ed. Usually, if you look at a check sheet for your major, it will include the general education classes you need to take. From there, you can figure out which ones you can exempt through AP Credit.

For example, let’s say you were going to major in finance. Here is the check sheet for that major:

http://www.finance.pamplin.vt.edu/academics/checksheets/2015.pdf

Listed under freshman year courses, there are two ‘Social Science’ spots with a little number 2 annotation next to them. Scroll to the bottom to find the matching ‘2’ footnote, and you’ll find a list of Social Science courses you are allowed to take as a Finance major. (Which in this case, seems to be any type of Social Science class that you want).

Each type of course at Tech is classified under an ‘Area’ (which you can see more about on that check sheet I just linked to). Here is a complete list of ‘Area 3’ or Social Science courses at Tech:

http://www.cle.prov.vt.edu/guides/area3.html

wow this clarified so much. thank you!

Under the freshman finance curriculum plan you linked over pdf, it states I need to take “Area 5: MATH 1525-1526 Elementary Calculus with Matrices 1,7” Is this the course that I must take or would any course under area 5 work? It says under one of the footnotes “Equivalent Math courses may be substituted. Completes the University Curriculum for Liberal Education Requirement in Area 5: Quantitative and
Symbolic Reasoning.” I scored a 3 on the AP Calc AB Exam last year and according to the AP tables I would get credit for Math 1016 and Math 2015 which are courses under are 5. Could that be substituted to complete that requirement?

Here is a link to the full CLE guide: http://www.cle.prov.vt.edu/guides/11-12/VT_CLE_Guide_11-12.pdf.

I looked through the requirements, but I’m not quite sure because of the information on page 22 (Pamplin College of Business Requirements). Maybe someone else has a better answer, but this seems like something your orientation course scheduling advisor could help answer.

I googled, and I found the equivalents listed on a Pamplin transfer application.

Equivalents are (1) MATH 1114-1205-1206, (2) MATH 1114-1205-2015, (3) 1015-1016-2015, (4) 1205-1526, (5) 1016-1526.

So using the (3) option, you could get credit for the Calc you already took, and just take an easy pre-calculus course (1015) for a stress-free GPA booster.

Here’s the form I got the information from:
<a href=“Undergraduate Programs | Pamplin College of Business | Virginia Tech”>Undergraduate Programs | Pamplin College of Business | Virginia Tech;

I didn’t want to create a whole new thread for a quick question:

Does AP Statistics not count toward the engineering degree?

Go look at the AP Transfer charts linked above. If an AP course won’t count towards a certain degree, it will be listed in the footnotes.
