Do you think it’s imperative to know current events for argumentative? I can usually think of relevant history and sometimes literature, but I can’t very often current events. And is an argumentative essay written completely out of person experience a grade bomb?

I suppose MC is still hardest. I want at least a 50 on MC so if I get around 8s on Synthesis and Analysis I can pretty much sleep for the argumentative (that’s the worst one for me).

“Do you think it’s imperative to know current events for argumentative? I can usually think of relevant history and sometimes literature, but I can’t very often current events. And is an argumentative essay written completely out of person experience a grade bomb?”

I don’t think so. My teacher said you should draw on history, literature, current events, or personal experience (or a combination), but you don’t have to use all of them.

I wouldn’t use current events. Most current events, after all, are disputes or controversial matter. And remember that your argument essay is meant to persuade. I’d stick to history or personal experience.

For the MC do you read the footnotes? or do you only read them if a question asks you to?

No I usually don’t read footnotes. I tend to skip those questions until the end as I find them rather distracting.

Any tips for the multiple choice?

Im taking mine on the 22nd…does that mean my test will be different than the one given on Wednesday?

Obviously. I find the Form-B to be harder, and it’s all on the same curve right?

Form B is what I will have?

haha you guys dont understand. when i say i suck at MC, i REALLY do. last practice test, my essays came out to be 5, 5, 6, and mc choice with the CB curve 7.97

that puts me at like a 2.

Did anybody else take the diagnostic test on the sparknotes website? I’m wondering how accurate its predictions are

yeah, I got a 4 on that. That was not easy. But I disagree with some of its answers as well, like the about the deer ascending.

Yeah I got a 4 too.

Anybody have advice on tone in passages? That’s pretty much my weak point

Just look at the diction of the passage, eliminate the obvious ones, then read the passage in each of given tones to see which one is correct. They’re not going to put two awefully close ones on the same question (like mocking versus satiracle), so it’s pretty what feels like the best fit is the answer.

I got a 7 on my last essay. Thats really what im aiming for…

Anyway, I’ve been using the Peterson guide so far and I like it better than barrons :P

They gave us this little graph thing to tell you what you can get on both the multiple choice and still get a 5 Ill try to see if I can accurately post this…

Score of 5

25 Multiple Choice, 25 total on all 3 essays (8.33 per essay)
30 MC, 23 total essay (7.66 per)
35 MC, 21 total essay (7 per)
40 MC, 19 total essay (6.33 per)
45 MC, 17 total essay (5.66 per)

Okay, I hope this helps some people out! If anyone wants the graph for 4s or 3s let me know Ill post it. It seems like everyone is aiming for a 5 so I didn’t post it…

the MC scores are after .25 deduction right?

The sparknotes test. Is it accurate? It really worries me now that I got a 4.

Which is the harderst? Barron’s, Cliff’s, or that one Sparknotes one? And do you find it harder to look up on the computer screen and do a test than to look down and annotate at the same time?

Let’s talk…ENGLISH
