Wow thanks for all of the imput guys! I’m not sure which one to do still. I’m not sure which subject I really am more interested in either… We are learning about WW2 and 1 sophmore year in MWH and we already did that in 9th grade… What is APUSH about in American history, what parts? is it like a lot, like 1400’s to now???

I would try to take both…Most high-achieving juniors do take at least 2 APs. Do you have to take them both the same semester? If it’s block scheduling, can’t you do one in the fall and the other in the spring?

if both do not fit into your schedule, choose the one that is more important to you, you have more foreknowledge on, as well as the class that has less people for more individual attention

@LoveTheBard Yes, but you cant choose when they are. So i could technically have anything at the same time

If those are the only APs you are taking, you shouldn’t have too much trouble even if they are in the same semester, especially if you are taking an elective or something fun for one of the blocks.

@LoveTheBard that would be true but i will have electives mixed with other honors classes too. Its 4 90 min blocks per semester and its evened out so kids dont just have electives all day

I’ve found it depends on what you like more, I love history so it’s not so burdensome, and I find APUSH to be extremely useful. Not that Lang isn’t useful, I just prefer history.

@chloeplef Oh. Is your APUSH class hard? At my school, there are always kid talking about how thjey stayed up late studying for hours for something, and they still get a C. I am a little concerned about that right now because right now I have a VERY easy teacher right now and way too many kids in the class have A’s, we have had 2 tests this year, and all other grades have been PARTNER, yes thats right PARTNER quizzes.

I don’t want to go from such a huge jump, yet I want to take one AP class junior year… We just got back a big paper in honors english too and I got an 80… so now my final grade is around an 86 so i am unsure what to do.

@schmonstar I’m a sophomore, so APUSH is my first AP class. My teacher is a good one, not too easy but not too tough… it is a very self-guided class at my school and at most schools… I’ve maintained an A- but most kids maintain Bs and B-s. I feel it was the best decision for me to take this year. For sophomores at my school, only APUSH and AP Bio are offered, but it’s been a good way for me to get into AP classes. I can’t give a lot of feedback on AP Lang, but I can say even though AP testing is standardized, every teacher and course is different, and even students in the same class have very different experiences. I’d say your best bet is to ask people at your school who have taken the classes what they think. Also take into consideration what interests you more; I love history so the workload feels like a lot less.

@chloeplef Oh ok thanks. Yea i will try to ask juniors and senoirs who have taken it. Thanks

@schmonstar I’m taking AP Lang and Comp this year. I think the class is ok, although I expected to like it more than I do because I’ve always enjoyed English. We have about an hour to an hour and a half of homework a night, excluding long term essays and the papers we have due every other Wednesday. At my school the class is very focused on the writing aspect. We rarely work on vocabulary, grammar, or multiple choice which is concerning for the AP exam. The main focuses of the course are rhetorical essays, synthesis essays(haven’t done yet), and argumentative essays. My teacher is an extremely hard grader, but I got an A- first term. It’s definitely a challenging class, but it isn’t reading-intensive at my school. We’ve only read one full novel this year and we’re only doing two more the rest of the year. Mostly we analyze pictures, comics, essays, etc. for rhetoric or types of arguments, claims, and fallacies. It is definitely a lot of busy work, in my opinion, but my writing has really improved. Hope this helps you make your decision!
