I'm a junior in high school right now. I'm taking 5 other AP classes next year (Econ, Stats, Calc BC, Physics or Chemistry, Spanish 4). I'm looking into finance/actuarial/engineering for a career but I'm not sure yet. Dream schools are UC Berkeley, USC or something similar. Weighted GPA is 4.65, unweighted is 3.93. English is my least favorite class and I don't want to overload myself with AP courses which is why I want to go into CP (regular). if I do go into CP English, do I stand a chance against other applicants assuming I keep up my GPA?

I’m not sure what to say about the comparison without students. Generally as a rule of thumb, I think accomplishment is core classes trumps electives. If you were my kid I’d be saying to take the AP Lit and give up the econ or stats, you don’t need 2 math classes in your schedule. But if you have an otherwise strong application I don’t know that you will be hurt by the schedule you propose.

I had a similar situation on classes this year. My counselor, including my AP Physics teacher, told me if there’s one AP class you want to have, it’s english. Though it might not be your favorite, it’s definitely important to be able to communicate in writing and analyze excerpts effectively, even in the occupations you’ve mentioned.
