AP Physics C Mechanics or Electricity and Magnetism

Which one is the better AP to take? and which one is easier?

Mechanics is easier, but take the one that interests you.

It’s better to take both, of course. Mechanics is easier, IMO.

From the 2015 exams, I actually found the Mechanics exam harder than the E&M exam. However, in terms of material, I found Mechanics to be easier. Some concepts in E&M also require basic knowledge of kinematics and dynamics for mechanics. In terms of applicability, it kind of depends where you want to go into. E&M will definitely help you if you plan on becoming an electrical engineer, while Mechanics will be more helpful if you plan on pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Ultimately, take the one that interests you most, because in Physics, if the material interests you, then you will be more inclined to spend time and learn it, and the overall experience will be more enjoyable.

I didn’t have the option of taking both, but if you can, do try to take them both.

TBH, most biology degrees require both classes, so I would recommend both if you plan on a science or engineering major. I really liked E&M more than Mech in terms of content, but it helps to be done with Calc AB when you start learning E&M. For mech, a lot of the beginning content like kinematics teaches the basics of derivatives with the actual physics, so that one should be easier.

Thanks for the replies guys!
