i don't think i saw an official thread for physics, so here we go! are u guys ready for the exam? i think i need to review those center of mass problems and LC/RC circuits a bit. i could also use a little bit of review on rotational motion, particularly torques. how confident are you guys about the test? i just hope they don't throw us any curveballs in the free response....

I'm only doing mechanics since I really want to take the e&m class in college since it is a .. heavier part in computer engineering and I don't want to completely screw it up by one generalized test.

There's supposedly a lot of "rotational" stuff. I have to pull off a 5! I got a 4 on Physics B .. but that's because I didn't study. Maybe if I cram for this one I can actually get that 5...

same here im taking mechanics only...

apparently, after i'm done w/ m.c. i have to sit there and wait 45 minutes so e&m guys can finish their m.c. section -_-...

i've already got the battleplan for a 4 ready and good to go.

Meng, UIUC used to grant AP Physics C credit for scores of 4, but they found that many students were not adequately prepared for the next physics class. So they recently changed the policy to grant credit only for scores of 5. The E&M class will be good preparation for Engineering Electromagnetics later on. Also, if you don't end up getting a 5 on the Mechanics exam, you can always take a proficiency exam offered by the Physics department, which is exactly the same as the final exam taken by current students. A C- will give you credit for the course (with a grade of Pass on your transcript).

I am taking this exam but i don't think the results matter as much to me, credit wise. first of all, i'd rather take the physics courses. second, my major (biochem or cellular bio/microbio) will require a light/moderate amount pf physics [HOPEFULLY, OH GOD HOPEFULLY]. third, i am going to uiuc as well, and i will not get a five.

hehe, but i will try my best, just to try to own one of the hardest exams.

Well, I self studied, and I think these exams will be hard. I gotta start studying for Chemistry as well.,....;( Not good. Hopefully 3's will come.

all u need is 20 right on m.c. and 2 free response for a 4 on the AP exam

how many mc are there? for each section

35 MC for each section....therefore, 70 Q's if you are taking both :D

Inductance is one of my fav parts! Maxwell's and Magnetism in general is about to eat me alive...

I am hoping for a 5 and think I can get it with a good day. It should be interesting taking both E&M and Mech after taking AP Music Theory in the morning.

Best of luck to all of us brave souls taking these exams.

im taking mech...how many mc and fr response do i need for a 5?

get 30+ right on the M.C. and half of the free response right for Mechanics, and you have your 5.

How about the opposite.. if one tends to do better on the free response than the multiple choice? Ahem, me.

If I don't get that 5, I'll just take the class. Obviously, I'm missing some physics concepts and might as well get them down before I move on to the harder classes.

if you are taking only mechanics, can you leave after you finish? or do you have to stay?

I also have another question. Compared to the Physics B test, is the C EASIER to get a 5 or harder?

Hey what textbooks did you guys use for Physics C?

I that it is easier because of the curve, but the content is harder and you also need a prerequisite or enrollment at Calc. (for E&M)

E&M is significantly harder than the B part.
Mech is fairly the same (just add little rotations).

I'm glad I'm not taking E & M then! I definately wouldn't have been ready for it no matter what.

Right now, I'm using PR for Physics C as well as SOME (very very little) Barrons. This is self study for me too but I'm took (.. taking) Calc BC too.

Grrr! My Mech is crap right now. My E/M is far stronger than my Mech (stupid momentum and rotational crap). Rotation is a pain. Man, who came up with rotation? Psssh. We don't need no stinkin' rotation.

Oh yes, how is the time crunch? It seems a little tight with only 45 minutes. Unfortunately, I haven't officially timed myself yet.
