I got my AP US history score on monday (which was nerve recking since it came so late compared to my other scores) and I got a 4 though I was about 90% sure I got a 5. Is it worth paying collegeboard to recheck my exam or it is worthless?

Honestly, it depends on what you plan to do with that score. Will a college that you want to go to only award credit for a 5, or are you able to get credit/skip a class for getting a 4 or a 5? Or, do you just want to make a good impression on college admissions officers? If it's the former, you may want to consider rescoring, though it probably won't help, seeing as how the chances that a computer misread your answer sheet are so small, (there's a better chance that you messed up your free-response section, but Collegeboard doesn't recheck that portion of the exam, if I'm correct.) If it's the latter, you should realize that earning a 4 is just as good as earning a 5. Both scores show that you understood the material and that you can handle the stresses and rigors that a college class can hold.

honestly if you were expecting a 5 but got a 4 there's no point in rescoring. rescoring is only worth if you think they might have screwed up your multiple choice. if that is the case the difference would be greater, more like the difference between a 2 and a 5.

Plus, the chances are even smaller, close to nonexistent, that the mistakes made by a machine will boost a full AP grade. You would have to be very very borderline.
