I recently saw my AP scores and I did wayyyy worse than I expected. If I were to retake a test and score higher, would the college I marked on the AP answer sheet still see the 1st score or consider it?
Why did you send AP scores to a college if you are a rising high school sophomore?
for me its because of dual enrollment
A month or so before taking the exam, we were required to fill in the first and last page (I think) of our AP answer sheet with our personal information. Including our address, school, etc., we had the option to pick a college to send our scores to. Me being the stupid ambitious kid I was, put down harvard.
I believe at least some Ivies ask you to self-report AP test scores as a part of the Common App, and the official score report is not sent until you are admitted and have decided to matriculate.
I would assume Harvard discards records of AP scores sent to it by students who are not matriculating. I would assume they are not going to keep a file on you.
Ask your guidance counselor about the pros/cons of retaking it next year.
I really hope a record isn’t kept but if I chose the option for it to be sent in the first place, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be kept. Welp
Your score report includes all AP scores for all years, so if you send it again next year, it will still have the scores from this year.
So we send in an official score report provided by college board with the scores from all years? I thought we could just self report the scores we wish to send. I’ve been told that you could just send the scores you want but the unsent scores may raise some eyebrows.
Apart from all this, does anyone know if a college I marked in my answer sheet to send scores to will see my first scores even if I retake the following year and send new scores?
In general, yes, but you were the one who sent in their AP scores.
The, IMO, right way to do it is to only send the official scores to the college you will be attending. Self report your AP scores (or don’t) on the application. Unsent scores will raise no eyebrows; if the colleges required score reports with the application, they would tell you. Otherwise, sending 10 (or however many) score reports is a total waste of money.
Not reporting scores on your application, however, may raise eyebrows. If you don’t self report the score and the class appears on your transcript, colleges may assume that:
• Financial hardship prevented you from taking the exam
• You were not motivated enough to take the exam
• You took the exam and performed poorly (1 or 2)
The first one will not affect your application; the last 2 may raise an eyebrow. AO’s can, and have, contacted GC’s to explain why there are no AP scores reported on the application.
Thank you! I hope my chances aren’t ruined because I got a 3 and 4 the first time. I realize that in most cases, AP test scores are not really taken into consideration but receiving lower scores for easier AP test will not look impressive at all. I don’'t think I have any spectacular or outstanding achievements to set me apart so I needed to at least do well on these kinds of tests.
You do realize that a 4 is a good score, right?
I had taken econ and human geography which are considered one of the easiest AP’s. I understand my econ score but I know I should have done much better on human geography. I was expecting a 5. I think my handwriting was too messy or something for the FRQ. If I had only gotten 4s, I wouldn’t have been satisfied but I wouldn’t be as worried. Pretty sure I need to do really well on these exams to keep me as competitive as possible.
