AP World Freshmen HELP

Hello, I am currently in a freshmen in high school and taking AP World History (Really pre-AP since we take the exam in 10th grade.) I am currently doing ok but it’s a hard course and the teacher doesn’t teach she posts 40 bulleted slides on a board and it’s hard. I don’t want to drop out since I DO NOT want a ‘W’ on my transcript but I am not sure if I can get that for a pre-AP class but I am pretty sure the ‘W’ on the transcript refers to any class.
It’s hard retaining info in that class since she doesn’t teach and when you need to know 40+ useless facts for a test it adds stress.
So I need tips to do well in this class e.e

“I need tips”

At the risk of being a bit blunt, here are some tips:

  • Take a W
  • Don't take college level courses as a freshman in high school
  • learn how to spell "collage".
  • learn a lesson from this: There is a limit to what any one person can do. You need to understand your limits and stay within them.

*college
lol rip good thing I am not doing honors English.

Well, welcome to an AP class. It requires more work and more autonomy in learning. You have to adapt. Memorize, draw xonclusions between all the facts, see how thry connect, do the homework, go see your teacher.

That is how most teachers are in an AP class. They tend to give you just a a bunch of notes and materials and expect you to go home look over everything until you understand.

I recommend reading your textbook. The Textbook is probably very long and tedious and annoying but it personally really helped me through world because world is all about memorizing and making connections between different events in time. But as you read the textbook don’t just scan through it, make notes or outlines on what you think is important for each chapter and time period. If your still having trouble in the class buy a review book like Princeton or Barron’s, but I don’t really think its necessary when your only freshman and not in the actual AP class.

If your being stressed about trying to learn and memorize 40+ facts for a pre-AP class then classes like AP biology is going to be hell for you, so try to develop the skills now of taking your own notes, listening to the teacher, and putting your personal time in to understand the material instead of relying on the teacher. You still have a lot of time left until the actual test so don’t be too early to give up :). (I got a 5 on the AP test last year).

I did the Ap class and it is a lot of work to memorize the time periods, if you truly want to remain in the class, use online resources like Khan Academy or i personally recommend getting a review book of sorts (princeton review, barons, dummies) what ever works this books often have further simplified points.

The best tips are going to come from kids at your school. Tips here are mostly going to help you with the AP exam that you aren’t taking until the end of next year.
Ask other kids. Ask your teacher what outside resources she recommends. Ask if there is a website or a review book that could be especially helpful. Pay close attention for hints that might make googleable search terms for past AP world exam questions that the teacher might be putting in the class exam.

Pre- AP is the equivalence to honors right? I have the same problem with my honors world history teacher; she does not teach at all. The thing is she doesn’t even give us slides she gives us a bunch of worksheets over the topic, but the test doesn’t even have questions about what we learned. Most of the people failed our test on Thursday, and I managed to get a 93%. Is there any other pre AP world history teachers? If so ask a friend or someone you know from there class for their notes, that’s what I’m doing and it is the only reason I’m able to get an A in this class. If this is not an option ask your teacher for the textbook, this also helps because you can go along on your own. If none of these options are realistic then just take the W on your transcript, I think colleges rather see a W than you getting a C or lower in this class because of a bad teacher.

Closing thread. Further answers are moot as the OP is no longer a member here.
