Apartment suggestions?

I am extremely fortunate to live in a single room (I share a bathroom with a double) in Reynolds, but I seem to be losing my patience with dorm life. I like quiet, and it's as if it was intended that you be able to hear everything in a dorm room. "Quiet hours" is a policy that generally goes unenforced, and it doesn't help that my RA, for some reason, lives on the floor below mine.

Oh well. Does anyone have any suggestions for apartments that are quiet and within reasonable walking distance of campus? Ones with, at most, one other roommate would be nice, as well. Money shouldn't be too much of a concern, either. Thanks!

Would anyone recommend McCollum Hall? The single apartments seem quite nice. Is it generally quiet?

For what one of the McCollum efficiencies costs, you’re better off looking off campus.

McCollum is okay. I lived there 2 years, and liked it well enough (both in townhouses, however). Everyone I talked to that had an efficiency though said that it was well overpriced. And keep in mind, it’s probably going up another $100/semester minimum ($25ish a month) next year. I know you said that money wasn’t that big of a deal, but what with how much it costs, you’d probably be better off looking elsewhere.

McCollum is okay, it has sound proof music room on the first floor

Uhh, are you sure about that? I lived in McCollum for two years, and I can assure you that no room on the first floor is anywhere near sound proof.

Well, thank you for all of your comments. The efficiency apartment is actually cheaper than the single dorm that I’m currently living in. If I can get one, I might consider it. By then, I should have found someone with whom to share an off campus apartment.

Would you say that it you found it relatively quiet, Pasbal? I know I seem to be focusing a little too much on that. It’s just that noise after a certain time drives me crazy.

McCollum? Far from it. However, I lived on the first floor, which meant I could hear damn near everything going on outside- especially construction or, in one rather annoying instance, 6:30am on Sunday lawn maintenance with a weedwhacker. If you’re higher up, you won’t hear everything, unless you’re on the side that faces Tennessee Street.

I don’t think you’ll find a quiet apartment within walking distance b/c majority of those apartments are filled with students. You only get quieter living spaces when you are outside the immediate FSU zone. I live in a complex that has mostly families so I don;t have to deal with drunk and noisy college kids. Plus my complex has enforced quiet times which people actually abide by.
If money isn’t a concern then you might as well live on campus as I don’t think McCollum would be as bad b/c it looks like the windows aren’t as large as at Rogers. I lived on the 3rd floor of Rogers and it was so noisy. I heard the drunk kids, the lawn maintence, cars driving by, car alarms. It all sounded like I lived on the 1st floor, and it’s not like I have great hearing.

That’s true. I just don’t like the idea of being so far from campus.

Again, thanks for all of the comments. I still have a little time to figure out what I want.
