Appeal Process

@uwhusky1997‌ on their website they state you have a 5% chance of the appeal working

Do letters of recommendation play a big role in the success of the appeal?

If you read online every 1/20 gets reversed, you write no longer than a 3 page on why you should be accepted with an updated transcript plus you can have 3 letters of Rec

@phillipiscool123‌ i know. But I wanted to know if the admissions office actually takes them into deep consideration enough to be game changer or not

They do. They spend a considerable amount of time on every application they get, which is why it takes so long to get yor decision in the first place. This is also why you have a 5% chance of it working because they take so much time the first time. It’s always worth trying though. The worst they can say is no.

I understand… I’m choosing not to be intimidated by the 5% acceptance rate for appeals. I think as an individual applicant I have the ability to determine my own chances, and since this means the world to me I will be motivated even more.

Just try your best, and even if it doesn’t work, I’m sure there is another college that will provide you with many opportunities

I mailed my appeal earlier today. Let’s hope this “rarely-successful” process works out in my favor!

If i’m on the waitlist and my appeal is unsuccessful, they said I will still be considered on the waitlist. My question is would my chances of being admitted off the waitlist be higher if I appealed? After all, they will now have new information on me to consider.

If they dismiss your appeal, I’m assuming that your spot on the waitlist would remain the same with the same chances. But I’m not on the waitlist so I’m not very informed on how that would work @Kai407‌

If an appeal is accepted, will the unofficial transcript show/update?

I just looked at the status of my application this morning and it says that that they’ve revieved my petition and will send a decision by mail soon. It used to have a “sorry” message (last time I checked). I might know within the next week!

*recieved, not reviewed!

I also appealed. If UW is your dream school, then I would highly recommend appealing. Don’t let anyone discourage you.

No letter still and my appeal was recieved about a week ago. I guess it takes some time rather than being completed right away

It’ll be quite a bit longer than a week. I’d say 2-4 weeks. You have to consider that they’re getting plenty of appeals (which probably take longer to assess than usual apps), and depending on where you live, letters might take a few days to get to you.

A decent trick to gauge your acceptance is to go to the housing and food services site, try to apply for Undergraduate Housing, and sign in with your UW ID. If it says “student not found”, it means they haven’t added you to their database . If it takes you to the application page, you have most likely gotten in.

@GuitarHusky‌ really? Hm, maybe I’ll have to try that out later on or sometime during the week when I feel like they’ve made their decision.

I was thinking I would find out some time within the 2nd week. I didn’t know that they usually get a lot of appeals, maybe I’m just oblivious because I thought that there wouldnt be too many, lol

After mailing your appeal, how quick did they change your statuson your UW net id account? @uwhusky1997‌

I was wait listed and filed a petition. I mailed my three pages (rich content reviewed and edited by a couple of teachers and my school college counselor who all thought it was very well done) along with transcript and three letters of rec (2 teachers and 1 Company President who I volunteered with) last week. Today my “application status” has changed to what it was before I was waitlisted (like what we all saw before decisions started loading…"We’ve recieved your application etc…) and my unofficial transcript loaded with a date/time created this morning (previously it did not load.) I tried applying for housing, as suggested above and was able to create my housing profile however housing applications are not open to incoming freshmen until May according to the info listed. I was also able to list emergency contacts and sign releases so my parents can access my financial account. I’m guessing that’s all good stuff but I just want to see an acceptance confirmation! Good luck to everyone else!

Just adding: I mailed my petition on 25th, they listed it as recieved (via status update) on the 30th maybe 31st making the process to review my petition about 7 days. I’m also a resident, not sure if that matters though but I’m guessing it would or at least it makes sense they consider resident petitions differently. I could be completely wrong!

@madhusky2019‌ stats if i may ask?^
