Applicant Major Change

Does anyone know if it is possible to change your major before you have heard back from Cornell on your status of admission? And if so, how?

Thank you!

I would assume you can. Either email your regional rep, or call admissions. I’d recommend calling because you will get a quick response.

I would just like to caution you with this - Cornell is all about fit, and they probably won’t let you write a new essay showing your different interests.

There is a chance they don’t let you do this, the only way to know is to call/email.

Are you hoping to change colleges or just majors within the same college?

I don’t know if I would necessarily do this now. I don’t think they will let you re-submit a new essay if you are planning on applying to a different college from the one you originally applied to. Did you use the alternative college option?

If you mean changing from say a French major to a Biology major within the school you applied to, then it really doesn’t matter because you aren’t declaring right now anyway. But if you want to now apply to Engineering and you originally applied to CAS for example, then you may not be able to do this.

You can only switch majors if it’s in the same school. I tried to switch from A&S Econ to AEM and they wouldn’t let me.
