Juliette - it is fairly easy to convert a 0-100 score to a GPA. What is yours? Then it will be possible to give you an opinion at least, for whatever it is worth. 2180 is really good, so that certainly helps, as do your other factors.

It’s…a 3.0. I know that’s REALLY a stretch. My school emphasizes math and science and I’m a more English-oriented individual, so I struggled a lot with required science and technology courses as an underclassman. It’s explained in my personal statement, actually.

I’m REALLY hoping they’ll give me a chance. I want to go there more than anything.

sorry juliette…but itll be slim. You might as well apply though as its free…

yeah, I’m still hopeful though. They haven’t rejected anyone from my school who applied EA in the past 3 years, and one person had a 79.6 overall transcript average, according to my school’s site. Mine is an 84.3, by the way.

It really does depend on other factors, although this year will be especially tough. You may have seen my postings about the smaller size of this year’s entering class they are trying to achieve. But if you took a lot of AP’s and have strong EC’s and recs, and the lesser grades are isolated to a subject area that you will not be pursuing…well, who knows. Not a great chance, but certainly there is one. As you imply, admissions people sometimes give chances to people they see something in that can add to the school. At least you seem prepared psychologically if it doesn’t turn out as you hope.

FC … curious about your comment about Tulane’s goal for a smaller class size this year. Can you provide a link to your previous post, or give a brief comment here again? I’m not familiar with that goal on their part? Thanks.

Dad2ILD-
Tulane’s current freshman class is larger than they had anticipated. In order to assure that they have adequate housing, classes, etc to accommodate the needs of the students, they would likely under enroll next year to compensate for this ear’s over enrollment. Additionally, the retention rate is climbing every year, also impacting the size of the student body.

Just to add a bit to jym’s completely correct comment, it does in fact mostly revolve around housing availability, from what I understand. Tulane requires living on campus for the first two years, and many would like to live there all 4 years. Obviously there are only so many beds available, although there is a new dorm being completed for Fall 2011. But they also lost some beds when FEMA took back some Katrina trailers or whatever they were (apparently they were nicer than it sounds).

This year’s freshman class was 1630, the goal is about 1500. Scott Cowen said that therefore they were going to try and have the incoming class for 2011 be 1400. Here is the article [The Freshmen areComing - thehullabaloo.com](thehullabaloo.com)

So they lost about 57 freshmen during the “summer melt”. Is that a pretty standard summer loss, FC?

I think in percentage terms, yes, maybe just a tad higher. In the past, I think about 40 out of 1450-1550 wasn’t unusual, based strictly on memory of things I stumbled across in researching other stats. I know a lot of the other, higher ranked privates were more aggressively taking from their wait lists this year. The economy continues to impact people’s ability to attend these schools, Tulane being a bit of an exception. I mean, I am sure there are people that wanted to attend Tulane that in the end couldn’t make it work financially, but in numerical terms it obviously didn’t hit Tulane as hard.

FC and jym626 … Thanks, that makes perfect sense. My D is interested in Honors housing or Wall, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, right? For now, I’m happy that her application is marked “complete” and we’ll wait for her SCEA decision and go from there! Thanks again.

Yeah, housing isn’t until summer, so long time yet. Good luck!

Yes, good luck!!

I wish my ds had wanted to live in Butler or Wall, but nooooooo, he wanted the “true” freshman experience. And he got it!

Accepted! Really excited!

Just checked Gibson - one down, eight to go!

Tribegirl, when were your application materials listed as “complete”, just out of curiosity.

Update: Gibson has listed my application as complete!

I’m so anxious to hear their decision. I put my heart and soul into that application. Really emphasized my passion for creative writing. I’ve got two of the most flattering, persuasive recommendations ever written (I believe!). So even though I’m telling myself I won’t get in (as is the rest of CC), I know that I CAN be among that handful of applicants who transcend the straight-A student generalization and get accepted anyway.

Juliette - your enthusiasm is “straight-A” at least. Best of luck. New Orleans and Tulane is a wonderful place for writers.

My application was listed as “complete” about 10 days before my acceptance was posted. That was very quick!
