Hey guys,
I'm applying Early Action to UNC and have submitted every form I need to, but my to-do list still says nothing has been received (including Test Scores sent in July and my Transcript and application fee). I've emailed Admissions a couple of times, but still haven't gotten a reply. I am slightly worried, given that the deadline is only a few days away....do any of you have any advice?
thanks

Call them…

From the UNC Admissions Blog…

Materials such as recommendation letters and transcripts that you mail in BEFORE you submit your application will not show up on your MyUNC portal until AFTER you submit your application. We don’t match up these materials with your application until after you submit. So go ahead and submit your application when it’s ready; you don’t have to wait until the other items disappear from your checklist.

I’m having the exact same problem as you.

DON’T CALL ADMISSIONS. I did that today, and the woman working the phones was so rude, condescending, and mean to me that I literally cried after speaking to her. (Sort of regretting applying now!)

So, after the woman finished berating me and giving me the wrong information, I scoured the website. Some of the information is conflicting on this subject. (The FAQs give a different answer than the admissions page). But ruterbom is correct. Everything else can arrive late.

I called admissions last week for the same reason. UNC really needs to do something about that woman. She was rude! She did however look up my Ds application and confirmed that all the paperwork was received even though most of it was still showing up on the to-do-list. From what I think she said - until they actually open your app to read it, items stay on the list.

Wait. So does my application still count as on time (for 1st deadline) then since I submitted it already but the application fee still hasn’t been updated on the To Do List?

It said it would update it within 2 hours and that was a fail…

I got the rude lady, too. I hate it.

I’m glad everyone else sees how rude she was, too! I was somewhat afraid I was imagining it.

To NJ Mom of 2, I’m surprised she looked up everything for you. She refused to help me out. So much for Southern hospitality…

I don’t think the first lady is an admissions counselor, because I had an issue with the to-do list a few weeks back, and she transferred me to someone else who was very polite.

I thought UNC had a switchboard type of situation…I can’t believe everyone spoke to the same person and I can’t believe the ENTIRE staff is rude either. I called the office last week regarding my application and thought the person was being rude also…however…after hanging up with her, I realized I should not expect the application that I JUST submitted and the paperwork that was mailed weeks before to automatically show up as being recieved. As the lady said, (and it’s on the website) we must allow at least 4 weeks for the application and materials to be processed. Besides…I know they must recieve THOUSANDS of application…not just mine.

Not quite related to the rude woman on the phone, but I was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem…I applied for the first deadline last night and submitted around 11:30 PM. Before submission, on my outstanding items list, it said everything was due November 2nd. Now it acknowledges that my application has been submitted, but the outstanding items (which have been sent…SAT scores, counselor statement, teacher rec and whatever else) are due January 15th. I’m really worried I missed the box or something, and I asked about it on the admissions blog but the adcom didn’t answer the question I was asking (she just said they’re going to show up as having been submitted sometime soon, which wasn’t what I meant) and I don’t want to press the issue. Has anyone else noticed this?

I would not call the admissions office, they have enough to do right now. Please give these people some time. They said keep checking your UNC Portal, which means give them a couple weeks. Everyone needs to calm down, don’t you think thay have a lot of items to sort through so give them a couple of weeks. My son was sent an email that his application was submitted. Everything will be alright, when my daughter applied in '06 it was maybe a month after she submitted her application that they sent her an email saying they needed her to send one of her essays again. It was any big deal, and she was admitted early so these things take time. It takes time for everything to be verified and then posted on the internet.

Even if the admission’s office has received all your recommendations, scores, etc, they aren’t matched up to you until you’ve submitted your application. It takes a bit to get that all together…so patience is the name of the game.

I write to apologize to those of you whom we’ve treated rudely. We strive to be courteous and helpful. It distresses me to know that weve fallen short of this standard, and I want you to know I’m sorry.

Over the last few months, our staff has worked to respond to two challenges. The first is a new information system that we have had to learn quickly. The second is an outpouring of interest in Carolina, expressed through calls, emails, and applications. Although were grateful for both of these challengesand especially for the second onethe two of them together have tested us in ways we werent expecting. As your comments have made clear, we havent passed this test as heartily as we might have hoped.

We are taking steps to improve. This morning our staff met to identify and correct inaccurate or discrepant information on our website. The members of our phone staff have also met to discuss our performance and identify ways we can serve you better. If you should have any further advice for us, or if I or anyone else on our staff should fail to treat you with the care and courtesy you deserve, I hope you’ll feel free to let me know by private message.

Carolina is without question the friendliest community Ive known. Im sorry that weve led you to believe otherwise. And I promise we will do better.

In the meantime, thank you for bringing this matter to my attention, and thank you for your interest in UNC.
