I just found out that my school messed up my first choice application! FREAK OUT

I just checked my UNC portal for the first time since I submitted my application. On my "to-do list" there are three missing items: transcript, LOR, and counselor rec. This has a due date of 11/2/09. I am COMPLETELY freaking out. My counselor assured me that he had taken care of everything.

What can I do??? I don't go back to school until Monday. Will this delay my admission notification?

AHHH

It might be that UNC just hasn’t categorized your items yet. I know that my counselor sent out my transcript etc on time, but they didn’t show up on my college’s portal until about 3 weeks after.

I wouldn’t worry though-so long as the college receives your application, it won’t matter if the transcript, scores, etc are late.

These colleges get a flood of applications and application materials at the same time and a human being actually has to match all the different parts of the application together. Give them a little time and don’t worry since they will never be able to piece everything together by the deadline. You’ve done your job and now it’s the admissions office’s turn.

Beta-Fist, stop freaking. Check the UNC admissions web site and its online blog. In about 10 different places (it seems) they work to assure applicants that it can take a long time for all of the documents to meet up with the application. It is most likely not your high school’s fault, but since it has been seven weeks or so, I would give Carolina admissions a phone call in the morning to see if they have everything they need. I recall reading that as long as YOU submitted your part by 11:59 EST on 11/2, your application will be reviewed as an EA app. So, stop freaking, sleep well and call in the morning.

Thanks for the assurance everyone. I remember specifically hearing my guidance counselor say that they may be a day or two late turning their stuff in, which was okay. I just got a little scared when I saw it’s been almost two months without UNC having received it. I hope that’s not the case, and it’s a backup in sorting of letters…

Why haven’t you exactly checked the portal for almost two months?? It is partly the applicants responsibility to make sure that the school sends in everything by checking in with the school and looking on the portal…

MAke sure you use a polite, gentle tone with everyone. This is no time to establish a reputation as a jerk. You can be firm and concerned without being nasty.,

There are a couple threads in the UNC section about this - with the Admissions Director even weighing in. Yes - the student had to submit by the deadline. Yes, other things can come in later. Yes - it takes 4 to 6 weeks from your submission to get everything posted. Mr. Farmer indicated they had a lot of apps and things were getting posted asap. Since it is past six weeks I would call the admissions office/ and or ask your college counselor to do so.

No need to freak out. Just follow up with your counselor and UNC on Monday. Nicely explain that it has been 2 months, the web site says items still needed, and you are just making sure.
