Applying for Fall 2012

k1k2k3, Thanks for the informative post, I am sure it will help many FIT hopefuls and their parents. Do you happen to know if there is a gym for the students in the dorms? Thanks.

Yes, there is a gym on the campus, basement of A building. Since my daughter is home, I asked her for details…brand new gym as of last year, treadmills, ellipticals, other machines, weights, yoga mats, etc. Nice feature is you can plug your ipod into the machines. Open 7 days, shorter hours on weekends. She suggested going during dinner hours since it’s empty at that time, but she has never had to wait at other times. You show your id and can go anytime, no need to sign up.

Hello my name is Jessica i live in nj, I have also applied to FIT for fashion design. In december I went on an in person portfolio review and i received good feed back but i have no guarentee into the school. I also took saturday live classes at fit this year. Has anyone herd anything about their portfolio im FREAKINGGGG OUT

Can someone help me???Im from Texas btw.

Im interested in their Advertising and Marketing communications major. The only thing is if i go i’d have to go to a community college first cause I can’t pay for it all four years and they only give scholarships to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. On the website it says
“You should apply to the two-year Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree program. High school students may not apply directly to the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program. Upon completing the AAS program with a GPA of at least 2.0, you may continue in the two-year BS program in Advertising and Marketing Communications (AMC)”

Then it also says:

"If you have credits or a degree from another college
You may apply to the AMC BS program as a transfer student if you meet one of the following criteria by the time you enroll at FIT:

-you will have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college in a program that is equivalent to the FIT AMC AAS program. Certain prerequisite or equivalent courses in the major area must be completed.
-you will have earned at least 60 credits toward a bachelor’s degree in an equivalent or related program at a regionally accredited college.

A college program is equivalent if it contains the same major area and liberal arts distribution as the FIT Advertising and Marketing Communications program. Applicants from college programs that are not equivalent must apply to the AAS program."

This is the link where it has all the info about the AMC major Eligibility Fashion Institute of Technology - Eligibility

So my question is , If i were to go to a community college first and get my AAS would my only option be to get a AAS degree with ALL the same classes as if i would take my freshman year at F.I.T. or is it OK as long as I get an AAS degree. I’m really confused about what it’s saying so if you could tell me my options and what exactly it’s saying, lol. Also what would i get my AAS in? How is it possible that some people have transferred there from Universities when they don’t have AAS!?? Please Help me , any info would be great
Thanks!

Jessica… my daughter applied last year, had her in persone portfolio review in November, amd participated in the summer classes at FIT. Sorry to say, they do seem to stick to the April 1st date as far as acceptance notifications. It may have been a few days prior, but it’s pretty close to that date. I know it’s torture, try to hang in there…when the acceptances do start to arrive, there will be a flurry of activity on FB, so you may want to check in there. Wishing you good news ahead…

Hi I’m Melody and I applied FMM fall 2012. My counselor sent out my transcript in December but somehow my Myfit status indicates that they haven’t received it yet. A bit nervous! FIT is my first choice! Really wish i can get in!! Good luck everyone!! :)

K1k2k3… Yes I know it is torture!!! Thank you very much hope your daughter is doing well

Erik0096, i don’t know if this the answer you are looking for, but FIT is considered a “community college” being that it offers solely a 2-year (Associates) degree to incoming freshman. After those two years, they are required to re-apply for their major for the last 2-years (Bachelor’s Degree). They do this for students so that they are sure they want to continue in their intended major because they aren’t allowed or strongly urged not to switch majors throughout their first two years.

Yes, after completing your AAS degree you do not go back to completing another AAS program at FIT. But if you are majoring in what you would intend to major in at FIT, your transfer credits must be approved and awarded by the Registrar’s Office (but they almost always do!).
I hope i answered your question but here is a link if it wasn’t:

Hi guys! Is anyone here transferring from another college? I’m trying to transfer from FIDM to the FMM program and am so so nervous!

Hey Ive applied for FMM fall 2012 the suspense is killing me I’m so nervous I to live in nj I hope I get in this is my absolute dream good luck to everyone

I’m also applying for FMM fall 2012. I’m from Sweden and I have to say that it has been quite interesting to apply, it’s such a sience! In Sweden you go on to a website were all the different educations are, you click on the programs you want to apply for (in Sweden we only go by grades) and then your done. Also, seeing the American education system is quite heartbreaking. Have seen so many prosper students who say that they want to attend a certain college, but they can’t afford it. I was so happy when I found out that I can take a loan for attending FIT (the loan-system we have in Sweden is something every student take, and it works for every swedish school and some international schools)! Just wanted to share this, it’s quite fun and interesting being a part of the entire application system you and your near experience irrespective of your application.

I’m also SO nervous! I’m hoping that my letter wont arrive that late, concidering that I live far from USA. Does anyone know if you get a small envelope or a big one that (hopefully) says “Congratulations”?

Hey all!

I finished my application for FMM in Oct. and I’ve been going crazy while waiting for the end of March come! Good luck to everyone who has applied! I hope we all get in!

@JaeBby, your saying you sent everything in by Oct? You probably are the rare few that will then receive decisions early.

@Grebestam I think it’s a big envelope that’s congratulations I’m very nervous to … I’m told that FMM is a very competitive major to get into I want this so bad @JaeBby I applied in October to this wait seems like forever but people are telling me it will be here before I know it :)

Hi ProspectiveFIT and everyone else who has applied to FIT. My daughter was in your shoes last year at this time, and believe me, I feel your pain with respect to waiting for your admission decision. It did seem like forever and, like many of you, it was her first choice. She did receive good news, and I hope all of you will as well. Looking back at her acceptance letters, I see that the official letter was dated March 28, and I think we received it around that time.

However, I just remembered that she also received a letter in mid-march that stated the following…“You are one of a small select group of outstanding students that we are notifying in advance of the April 1st notification date. Your official acceptance letter and materials will be sent to you in late March.” I’m not quite sure why that letter was sent to some, and I am also not sure they are planning to do that again this year. I am mentioning this because that letter was in a small envelope and due to the dreaded “small envelope fear”, my daughter was certain it was bad news and didn’t want to open it. I am also mentioning it because, IF they do send those letters again, and IF you don’t get one, please don’t panic, as none of my daughter’s three roommates did, and yet they were still accepted end of March via the regular acceptance mailing.

So you may read and hear alot of different scenerios of acceptance stories, but the truth is you never know what a college will do from one year to the next. So hang in there and trust that if it is meant to be, you will receive your acceptance. If not, it’s not the end of the world, keep it in perspective and decide how you will go forward with achieving your goals. Good Luck To All!!!

Love to read all this information on these threads…My daughter has applied to Fall 2012 for Fashion Design. I was wondering if you know if FIT takes into consideration that she attended 3 yrs of summer precollege classes and also a Fall and Spring session. She received good grades from those classes. She also got a good response from her in-person portfolio interview.
Thanks for any info…

hi, im just wondering how to post something on here about FIT.
ive only found how to reply to treads…
thanks! :)

i wanted to ask about GPA when i apply to FIT. On the admissions website, it says that they generally consider applicants with a strong B average but my GPA is B- (2.67). What are my chances? did anyone else get accepted to FIT with GPA like me? or lower?..

lindsaylee, I don’t know for sure if attending the precollege program in and of itself would be a plus for acceptance, I think its more about what the student does during those sessions that makes a difference. And I’m not talking specifically about the talent demonstrated. If your daughter worked hard, was a diligent student, met deadlines, was respectful and showed interest in the subject matter, then in my opinion, they can expect a good recommendation from their instructors. My daughter took the precollege classes and in addition to showing good work ethic, she got along well with one of her instructors. And guess what? That particular instructor was one of the faculty members in her portfolio review. So in general, what I am saying is that it goes a long way to show common decency and good work ethic, not only in the college application process but in life in general. You never know where you may cross paths with someone throughout your career. Many/most of the FIT faculty are currently working in the industry, just something to keep in mind.

Another perk of the precollege classes is to the students themselves. It gives them a chance to experience what classes at FIT are like, and to decide whether or not the program and the environment coincide with their needs/desires.

Good luck to your daughter, I hope good news is coming your way soon.
