Applying for fall of 2010 Cornell

Ugh, I didn’t know we have to send descriptions of each of our courses, where does it say that???

"Ugh, I didn’t know we have to send descriptions of each of our courses, where does it say that??? "

Same question here…

Hurricane said that was a requirement for engineering u guys. Dont worry

Phew, I feel like they still ask for mine though (if I’m not rejected outright), since I’m from an international school…

They still ask you for what?

Hi Iron, did your boyfriend do the Independent Student Certification Form and how long did it take for that? Thanks a lot Iron.

boysdontcryy - I feel like they will still ask for my course descriptions.

Did everybody send in their midterm reports yet? I am applying to ILR and I wont be able to until likely the 5th or 6th of April. do you think it will pose a problem? I have the option of faxing it in now with a 3.72 and setting it in later with a 3.86 in early april, because by than my midterm will be graded. Would i be better to just send it in earlier with the lower grade?

I think 3.72 is not too bad. If I were you, I’d send it in so they can get to work on your app and update it again then.

Cynthia, you’re transferring from UK correct? Did you manage to fulfill the pre-requisite courses like Bio, Stats etc?

All I’ve done is bio courses as a Zoology major (genetics, physiology, comp. stats, and then more specific things like Invertebrate and Vertebrate Zoology, I haven’t done any of the liberal arts pre-reqs though. So I’ve fulfilled most of the upper-division stuff, and 0 of the things one does in the first two years. Fabulous, I know.

Is that because you studied in a British-patterned institution? I’m in the same conundrum. British-patterned institution so I didn’t do Bio and Stats. So I’m crossing my fingers.

Oh really, where are you transferring from?? At least there are two of us!
Columbia officials said it wasn’t completely unheard of there, just took some working out of course equivalents and what gen reqs could be skipped.

Oxford U.^

HAHA. Kidding. University of Melbourne.

Is it unheard of, transferring to Oxbridge?

Ohhh god. I was going to say, I don’t stand a chance then!! I am an Oxford reject actually…
I think it is extremely difficult, as difficult as transferring to Harvard or Yale but perhaps more so because the constraints to fulfill your course requirements are so strict, I think one would have to start over unless they’ve done a very similar course in the UK.

Are you on a 1st, 2.1, 2.2, and 3rd class degree marking system?? I really hope they have some people up to speed with what my grades mean, or they’re going to see my 63 average as despicable.

Yes. I have a GPA, after conversion into the US system, of 3.83. Equals to a first class honors at the University of Melbourne. The thing is, over here, they have very very stringent grading policies. NOBODY gets a GPA of 4. So…

Btw, are you transferring in as a sophomore? Or?

Yeah, it’s the same in the UK, NOBODY gets above a 75. And if you do, it has to be approved by the whole faculty and is considered publishable.
I’m transferring in as a sophomore I think. Had to take a semester off of my sophomore year, so that combined with the missing gen req., I don’t think I could be a junior. You?

We are taking over this thread, mwahahaha.

Heh. Yes. Same here. For papers to receive an A, they have to be regraded by two examiners.

I wonder if the admissions department knows that? I really hope they’ll take tt into account.

I’ll be a sophomore with advanced standing. What I did was I took leave from Uni of Melbourne and am at UMich trying to fulfill a handful of the courses – though I only managed to do Bio because priority for courses was for their own students.

I seriously hope that my effort will bode well.

You’re an American correct? Will they assess you based on your citizenship or the university you’re transferring from?

Heh

I hope so too! I sent them a copy of my marking criteria, as it varies even between schools in the UK, so hopefully that will help.

Oh wow, you’ve gone through loads of effort then to make sure you’re transferable, I’m sure they will take that into account. =]

Yes, I’m American. I have NO clue, I guess I would be assessed as an international for everything except finances? I do have a US HS record though, who knows, I am an odd ball.

I am the #1000 post!
