Applying to 2 schools?

So there are two schools that I'm interested within CMU: MCS & H&SS... But the school I'm far more interested in is MCS (for biology).. (H&SS would be history/psychology)

Are there any pro's/con's about applying to 2 schools within CMU? Generally speaking, will it decrease/increase my chances? (Pardon my ignorance...)

Thanks! :-)

The only Pro/Con I can think of is that you get two shots at admission.

cool thanks!
anyone else? :-P

and i guess i have another question. By applying for 2 schools, does that mean you’re signing up for a double major? or is it just saying that you have two interests? or…?

thanks! =)

You’re just saying you are interested in applying to two schools and I believe you are considered independently for each one. Per the application:

DS applied to SCS and CIT ECE and was admitted to both; his first choice was SCS.

Yep! As has been mentioned, it basically just shows that you would like to apply to both of those colleges individually. You may be accepted to one or both, and in the case of both, you will need to pick one college you would like to attend. You can double major across departments later on at CMU but as a first-semester freshman you’re stuck to one college, pretty much.

Also, CMU is highly interdisciplinary. For example, there is a dual bio-psych major in HSS and a psych-bio major in MCS.
