^Haha no, that was a joke, you are very uptight. There is legitimately no hazing at all.

Well, i've been reading reports and they say there are some????

^Yes, there WERE minor incidents which of course were blown out of proportion by media coverage. Now, there is absolutely NOTHING, I assure you there is nothing to worry about. haha, why do you use so many question marks. Go visit the schools and form your own impressions.

Minor?? What happened there (btw, did you ever meet John Kerry there??)

I won't go into exact details, because that would be kind of disloyal to the school, but the incidents were pretty minor and blown out of proportion. (trust me on this, there was nothing physically abusive) and yes, john kerry spoke at the school my third form (freshman) year.

Does he always speak to the freshmen, or was it a one-time thing?

Nah, he just came to speak that year before his campaign. Robert Mueller head of the FBI who was a classmate of Kerry spoke last year, St. Paul's gets a lot of very good/famous speakers. The Poet Laureate spoke last month and he was fantastic.

Doesn't anyone get it? First you must demonstrate your ability to be a snob through and through. Immediately look down if anyone not wearing J Crew walks by. Explain that Mumsie isn't here because she just couldn't tear herself from the slopes at Zermat (winter), the cottange (read mansion) in Newport (Summer) and so on. But alas, bring along several alumni uncles, grandfathers, fathers and steps all wearing their class ties, reunion pins, and jackets in colors not made in nature.

Tell them how long you've been waiting to attend a real school, private days just let in too much rif raff theses days. Why you and grandfather were just discussing this with a group of Exonians, Paulies, etc. on St. Barts last week! Express what a relief it is that the schools are now coed, making finding a suitable spouse so much easier than it used to be searching the blue book.

As for your reading list, any book with one of the following in it's title will do: Tradition, loyal, Mayflower....you get the idea.

How to dress? This is the easiest part. It's an audition and you must look like the part you want. Consult J Crew catalogue and Northface for outterwear. Timmies are a nice touch.

Talk about your extensive travel which includes Andexetpaul's alumni weekends since you were two. Rave about crew. Smile, smile, smile!

Any more questions, just ask!

^Wow, you're so knowledgeable about prep schools. I'm sorry that you're so bitter, but if you're going to do the dripping sarcasm thing you might as well do it right: it's St. Barth's not St. Bart's, J Crew is cheap, and nobody summers in Newport anymore. Don't come on this thread and act like a tool, people are coming on here because they want information.

I don't get what you are talking about, suze.. Anyway, is SPS a need-blind place? I heard that they give a lot of FA, but....

Do excuse my Typos, I'm famous for them. J Crew Cheap? Not to anyone I know at Andexetpaul's. We're always complaining about what we can't afford. Often that includes pizza delivery.

Bitter? Only unhappy that my 4 year stint is just about up. Regular readers of these pages know me as very loyal to my school.

This thread was just getting off point. The archieves are filled with great threads with real info. Check them out.

Oh by the way, is interview questions different for each school, or follows basically the same format for almost every school?

Oh, my apologies, I thought you were trying to rip on anybody applying to prep school.

And to dxu, interviews at most schools follow a pretty similar format.

What school do you go to, suze? How do I find the archived threads, or search through them?

Go to search and try the obvious prep school wording, but also look for posters Browninfall, palizoic, momofwildchild--they will lead you to others.

I go to Andover. While I love it dearly, I'm dissapointed when I see that so many only consider Andover, SPS and PEA, there are so many great schools and so few spots at those 3. No complaints, but I do wish I'd known about and looked at more that the top 10.

My family laughs that I must be part Asian to have done well in math at a school with some of the smartest and well prepared Asians who had programs I couldn't have dreamed of in middle school.

Anyway, for anyone to give it their all, the experience is unbelievable. But you will work your a** off: classes, sports, ECs................

Is it really that intense??

It's brutal if you don't crave it, and the best thing possible if you do.

How long does hw take each day, on average?

suze, I know what you mean about the SPS/PEA/PA thing...
Who's SPS' rival?
